Sportsound Watch

Turned on not long after 5pm to hear the results and caught the obligatory chat about how the big Glasgow two cannot be expected to compete in the CL and why Ajax signing Bassey for £20M just emphasise the gap that exists where RFC & CFC can only spend £5 or 6M on a player (see Yilmaz/Jota for reference). Somehow being oblivious to the fact that this is a ratio of 1:4 yet comparing with Hearts (Shankland circa £500k) & Aberdeen (some guy about £550k) this is is a 1:10 ratio, yet as ever the Scottish clubs need to do more as its just not helping the OF compete because our domestic competition is not strong enough................fucking tiresome shite.

Just caught up with last night’s podcast, not a mention of the matches at rugby park or at meadowbank, poor stuff

The Celtic game was on 2 hrs before them. The podcast is also edited I think.

On Tuesday night I walked away from the game at Dingwall and put Sportsound on, the Liverpool game was not yet finished so there was commentary on that.  There was then 40 minutes of padding about whether Rangers were good enough until they got an interview to put out.  During the padding there was one mention of the score at Dingwall, no type of report of the game and no analysis of the result.  I expected a 2 minute piece where someone would go through the scorers, point out the revised league position and a well done to Motherwell, then back to the fluff.  But nothing.  This was a match in our top league.

Its not that long ago they used to do commentary on all the top flight matches, either on the app or online.

The fall off, both in quality and useable content, has been dramatic.

Last night, Hibs did their own commentary on our U19s Euro match v Molde on twitter - frankly, I wish clubs all did their own output as it cant be any worse than what our "national broadcaster" inflicts on us.

Apparently had St Johnstone got a draw earlier it would have been their biggest result in six years. Bigger than winning two cups (and the results en route to the finals). Bigger than winning the playoffs last season. Bigger than drawing in Istanbul. Bigger than multiple other results that St Johnstone fans could quote.

Also according to some, they lost the game because they celebrated too much.

If this goes on much longer, either Preston or Bonner will end up telling Leanne Crichton to “calm down dear”.

There’s already something of a patronising tone in their voices.

St Johnstone lost the match because the team celebrated an injury time equaliser against Celtic, who had beaten them for the last 10/11 times in Perth. F*cks sake. They lost the game because a player couldn't go through his pain barrier, kick the ball out of play and then go to ground.

Celtic celebrated their second goal but didn’t lose the match, double standards
