They're not I don't think. Voting would be based on residency rather than citizenship. If it got through the Scottish parliament at least.

Get your point about it being a rough example, but there'll have to be a bit of a shift in other demographics too. Btw in light of the current Brexit farce, does anyone still subscribe to the 50% + 1 vote being an acceptable result for Yes in a future indyref.

Depends, I mean, it is still happening - no one is questioning the validity of the result, and both major parties have swung around it. 50%+1 is not a brilliant victory, and it may well be storing cultural issues up down the line, but at the end of the day, as Brexit has proven (or indeed, the myopic treatment of the wishes of the 45% who voted in favour of Indy in '14) a win's a win.

Quote “The Scottish Parliament has only recently regained the power to legislate for votes in Scotland, and we fully intend to use it. Presently many nationals of other countries like the US cannot participate in Scotland's democratic process despite being part of our community. We will change this. That's a quote from MEP Alyn Smith after Holyrood got control of voting legislation.
Detournement
That's fair enough but I think you have to be wary of allowing people from outside Europe many of whom will be motivated by their visa status and how independence could affect that or make it harder for them to live/work/travel in England. If the UK is outside the EU then you can pretty much guarantee the right to work in England will be in the project fear armoury even for Scots.

Colkitto
Love how Unionist posters seem all concerned about the timing of indyref2 in case the Yes side lose again. Should they not be urging us to have a quick referendum before the horrors of Brexit unfold? All this don't go too soon or you will lose - I don't think they have our best interests at heart somehow

Antlion
Hopefully the Tory self-hater currently declaring that the UK decides trade deals and that Scotland is a region that doesn’t deserve a say (as we’re one nation: the UK) gets plenty of airplay. The more airplay the hatred the Scotch Tories voice for our proud wee loyal region the better for the independence movement.
DeeTillEhDeh
Well, 235,000 EU nationals live in Scotland. They broke 65/35 for No last time. You'd assume that they'd have every reason to vote yes this time, if, as seems likely the next one was fought on the principle of Scotland going back to some kind of close relationship with Europe. So that's 150,000 new yes voters right off the bat - for example. Not to mention there will be more dead No voters than dead Yes voters.

If they could promise security, it could be a great step forward and change voter participation dramatically.......and there would be no more dodgy postal voting patterns, electoral roll's or allegations of ballot boxes going missing. SLabour party will be opposed
