TheScarf
You'd think if he met Khachanov in the 3rd round he'd get disposed of 3-0. He just needs matches. Wouldn't be surprised if he drops to the Challengers in February for 'game time' like Nishikori did last year.
JamieStevenson
BREAKING: Andy Murray will retire at Wimbledon this year (if he makes it that far). Rules out continuing as a doubles player.
FifeArab
been a long time coming. He’s been fucked for years now.One of the greatest British sportsmen ever. He’s had a wonderful career and made us Scots proud for over a decade.
Elixir
Gutted for him. He's achieved so much, yet probably deserved even more. Although he's barely played for 18 months now, it's genuinely sad to think we won't see him in action much longer, if at all. Hero.
JamieStevenson
Only 31, he's supposed to be enjoying his prime right now. Such a shame. But what a successful career he's had, even more impressive given the level of competition he was up against.
FifeArab
If there was no Federer and Djokovic, Andy would’ve reached double figures In Grand Slams.
lichtie23
I’m going to play. I can still play to a level. Not a level that I’m happy playing at. But it’s not just that. The pain is too much really and I don’t want to continue playing that way. What a sad thing to read
peasy23
Gutted. He drove us all mental at times, but the successes were simply fantastic. I can still remember watching the 2012 US open final at work, with the match delayed until Monday night. Hiding away in a corner watching it on my phone, and only got spotted when I let out a huge roar when he won. As the Australian Open has tweeted, playing in an era with not 1 but 3 of the GOATs, he still won 3 slams, 2 Olympic Golds, world number 1, ATP finals, 8 slam finals, 14 masters 1000 titles, 45 ATP titles, and one they didn't mention was dragging his country to a Davis Cup win. An absolute legend, and we may never see his like again. Have mentioned it on here before, but there's a line in Raiders of the Lost Ark that I always think sums up Andy's problems of the last few years. "It's not the years honey, it's the mileage."
peasy23
In brighter news, Cam Norrie has reached his first ATP final in Auckland, where he will face Tennys Sandgren.
die hard doonhamer
That's gutting, but totally expected. What a legend.
Loki
Absolutely heart broken for him. Incredible career - three titles at Wimbledon, US Open, Davis Cup, a further Olympic Gold Medal, 14 Masters tournaments, ATP number 1 for 41 weeks, ATP Finals champion and bundles of others -an all time great and a Hall of Fame place guaranteed. My reaction watching his press conference:
Lex
Pretty tough to watch that interview. He’s obviously hurting physically and mentally. He should go now I think, a few games of tennis between now and July isn’t worth all that.
TheScarf
The greatest British sportsperson of all time. Who achieved so much against 3 peers who any other contender for this accolade just didn't come close to facing in their careers.

DigOutYourSoul
The one they used this morning on the radio was Hamilton. Murray competing against who he has, and doing what he has, would be like putting Hamilton against Schumacher, Prost and Senna for his whole career. For me there's no argument. He's my favorite individual British sportsman of all time. You do well to convince me he's not also the best of all time. Not getting to go out on his own terms must be the hardest part. Top Boi.

Bairnardo
There are folk who dont like Andy Murray and I really dont get it. Probably folk who have no appreciation that in sporting terms, he has attained a level that very few from Scotland, indeed Britain have ever reached. His time spent toe to toe with the golden generation of tennis is elite sportsmanship. We dont get elite often, we get good, and sometimes very good. He wears his heart on his sleeve and is completely genuine and honest. What he has to say is usually interesting and intelligent. As others have said a top boy and one of the finest examples to young people getting into sport you could possubly imagine. Well done young man.
Le Tout P'ti FC
He's a total inspiration to me in terms of how he succeeds, and also how he deals with challenges. He is a thoughtful man, very candid and never dull, his contribution to gender equality in sport has been seismic. I really hope he will find a path to a healthy retirement and begin to enjoy what he has achieved instead of pushing himself for more.I fully expect he'll find some prominent role in our society in his future, he's so widely respected. I can see him leading something, not quite sure what that will be yet. (A bit like a modern day Seb Coe, but far less of a dick.)I'd definitely put him up there as our greatest sportsman, probably only Chris Hoy comes close in my lifetime, but his main opponent was himself and the clock, not a Federer.Good luck to you Andy, we are all quite proud of you!
