throbber
I'd say it's impossible to do a five week job in three. Obviously they over-estimated the length of time it was going to take them but I'll let the folk who like to get involved in politics decide whether that was done deliberately or not. Maybe they gave an estimated time based on longest possible time + expecting some severe weather? Weather has been as good as good as they could have hoped for this time of year.

AyrExile
In other words the bridge was never going to be open at the start of January as they promised and other experts highlighted. Fair play in finding a temporary fix which gets the majority of users moving again. Now the heat is off and the spotlight elsewhere let's hope Feburary is the correct date for the hauliers and they don't get hung out to dry as I would imagine some are really struggling through this.

The temporary relaxation of driver's hours has been extended to January 6th, meaning they can still drive up to 11 hours a day instead of 9, and can do 66 hours driving a week. Not much consolation for the drivers I would guess.

I'd say it was more communicating the worst case. Much easier to say it will be done in five and do it in three, than the alternative of 3 and 5. Plus we've has really mild weather.. Couldn't really predict that. Don't see why the SNP would be either blamed or praised for this. They deserve neither.
Shandon Par
I'm glad they eventually took my advice and just shoved some filler in the cracks. Nice wee consultancy fee.

I was responding to the posts that were congratulating the engineers on finishing it "early" and to the folk determined to make it a political thing.

hearthammer
The only downside for me with the bridge re-opening is that i won't get to see the magnificent Kelpies in all their lit-up glory going to & coming home from work. Id seen them loads but not in darkness when they were illuminated. Fantastic.
