Suspect Device
I was reading last week that the cement industry produces more CO2 than cars or air transport. So maybe we need to start living in mud huts and well.

welshbairn
In a million years the only record of us being around will be a thin layer of concrete in sedimentary rock. So it's not all bad.

Wee Bully
It's worth recalling that VAT doesn't apply to jet fuel and realising that this is because it's overwhelmingly consumed by the richest in society.I’m not 100% sure you understand how VAT works. You do realise that if there was VAT on this fuel, the VAT would be recoverable by the purchaser (the airline) in full as input tax? So, in other words, it would not be a sticking cost.

I got that mixed up. There is no duty on the fuel and there is no VAT on the ticket price.

Or books. That's why you need people like Bastani to tell the lumpens what's good for them, salt of the earth that they are. It's just teasing their aspirations to make a flight to Spain nearly within their reach, much fairer to make it only available to the 1 percenters. Granny Danger
‘Mainstream’ Tories arguing the conference should be used to unite different wings of their party. Don't hold your breath folks. This will be like Nuremberg.

DespiteJohnson being as much a liability as was heavily predicted, the Tories will rally round him as they have become a death cult - I'm thinking a combo of Nuremberg and Waco. Villiers confirmed as much today by attempting to trash the investigation into Johnson's buiness dealings whilst London Mayor, and John McDonnell was correct to quickly point out who is initiating it. Such is the adoration the hard-of-thinking in the UK electorate have for this charlatan, he could have shagged the Queen Mother's corpse and they would still look the other way. The rest of us deserve better, hopefully starting this week.

There's only one way out and it'll take a significant amount of those who, for whatever well meaning purpose, in 2014 voted to persist with these charlatans to see a better way and join us.

The interesting thing will be the fringe meetings and how much media coverage they get. There's a small but significant chance the party could implode.
