The Partick Thistle thread

Recommended Posts

All I done was point out that the original poster was getting a bit carried away...calling it a 'special' moment.

A few of us have explained why it's special. If you can't comprehend why then you really are f*cking thick.

Anyway...hats off to Dundee, those nine points helped make it a special season for us jags fans. The only downside to finishing top six is we don't get to beat them a fourth time.

Although I think fourth is impossible I believe fifth is. I think the thoughts come from the fact that we are a much better side now than we were when we faced those top half sides earlier in the season and Hearts are a much worse team. We took points from Celtic which was a bonus and I can't say I think we'll do it again but I don't see why we can't get something against Rangers in both fixtures if we turn up. We'll likely be against St. Johnstone at McDiarmid and our record at their place is fairly good. We'll have to see how Aberdeen respond to today's result but it's still hard to see us getting something against them although not impossible. The crunch game is the Hearts one. If we can beat them, that would close that gap of three points but a win would be difficult. The real reason for the hopes of fifth is the question of where will Hearts be picking up points? A difficult game against Killie at Rugby Park followed by the split games. It wouldn't really mean all that much and would say more about Hearts' capitulation than it would about our quality but would still be another note to add to this season's success.

I also genuinely believe we can get 5th. Hearts are a shaky side. I can see us picking 3 points off both hearts and St Johnstone and I'd say anything else will be a nice bonus, but an achievable bonus.

The only thing ridiculous is thinking that Ricky Foster sitting wishing they were still at Partick Thistle due to this 'special' achievement.

Mmmmmmm! Maybe you are thinking of Wayne Foster....lol!

Just having a quick look at some of Thistle's stats for the season so far there. It really does go some way to showing the difference having a solid 'keeper makes in this league.

Thistle have only lost 4 times in 18 games; W 7 D 7 L 4 (with 7 clean sheets) since Cerny came back mid-November. In the run of 10 games when he was out they were W 2 D 4  L 4.

I'm just looking forward to the apoplexy from Firhill when the post-split fixtures are announced, and Partick are sent to Ibrox and Parkhead again to ensure parity with Accies and Motherwell.

Oh, and congratulations on getting to the top 6, well deserved.

Hi Ludo, quiet weekend?

As you will have read everyone's reasons why this is a special moment (no other reason why you are still here..) I endured the Gerry Collins + Dick Campbell eras so yes, this is our moment to get carried away.

I'll just leave this here.

I'm sure we then confirmed top six the following season with a 2-0 win over Dundee and a clenched fist from Ruitenbeak was all we go, gutter.

Congrats on finishing in the top 6, it is certainly an achievement to be celebrated.

We won't be worried about that, Third Lanark will be writing a letter of complaint if that happens.

An excellent keeper at this level, and we're very lucky to have him.

Clean sheet ratio of over 40%, which is a nonsense stat really considering our status in the league for the two seasons he's been here.

Was in Hamburg on a stag so missed the game, but saw the scores coming in while taking in the Hamburg v Hoffenheim game. Made it even better as the stag's dad (also a Jags fan) made a surprise visit for the game. Was delighted to have a fellow Jag to celebrate with, as the rest of them are OF fans. Unreal day out. Made up for not being there for it.

Great feeling to not have to worry about a relegation fight.

Reading this thread and trying to remember back to our first top six season, how good it felt, hopes for futher 'success', seeing what followed and being there to witness it.

Wouldn't mind Thistle experiencing some of that, although not at our expense :P

Good luck catching Hearts.

I hope this isn't the pinnacle for us and actually just the start of something special.

Those were my thoughts, but then I struggled to think what the next target should be? Top 6 again, fourth place, third?!? Or a Cup Final / Win.
