The Partick Thistle thread

Ourselves, Raith and United all in a ‘bidding war’ for Dom Thomas apparently, with the latter leading it. A fee would be required  (as per post on the QP thread).

Would be very surprised tbh, not sure what wage he’s on at QP but Ian McCall allegedly wanted him and QP offered him more than we could at the time, and that was pre-serious financial issues obviously, not to mention how we’d need to pay a fee also. United on the other hand can probably afford to throw silly money at him.

We maybe have kept a bit aside. We have a decent chunk of our first team retained for next season and perhaps we have some foresight into what the wage bill looks like and what we can offer.

Graham was given a new deal, based on what he needed to stay at the club, to stop him from taking other offers he had for management.

Based on that, you would imagine there’s some money there. Maybe the first lot of the new investment funds are to be used for playing budget?

EDIT: I reckon we should be considering making Tomi an offer as he is out of contract with Swindon in June.

Not seeing this at all - for all QP have been a bit of a shambles they're not skint* so why would they sell their best player when they're in a relegation battle?

Even if they were up for doing so or he has some release clause which is within our budget there's no way we'll be able to outbid DU on wages so we'd be relying on him wanting to stay in Glasgow for less money.

*unless Haughey has pulled the plug in the last few days.

I can see him leaving QP - he’s looked a bit pissed off in telly games  recently and might not like being part of a “project” / feel he can do better than a relegation struggle. But I can’t see us beating DU to his signature unless there are non-financial reasons at play, eg location, likelihood of playing time etc. And nor should we - either on fee (shouldn’t pay one) or wages (shouldn’t push boat out beyond what we would do for any other player) - but he’s good, and would fit our style / system well.

We also have the option to take Dowds back (cue agent froth and gnashing )...now scored 6 in league and "our" second top scorer .

Don't think we do anymore as there was a deadline to enforce the recall clause (presumably so we didn't stitch up Ayr by recalling him at 11.58 on transfer deadline day) which has now passed. Or that's the Ayr side of things anyway

Probably for the same reason they sold their best player when they were in a promotion battle, whatever that was.

Not sure I entirely follow mate.  Was that not last January.  There’s been steps taken to negate that.

also our attendances are up nearly one thousand a game this season.  Over 3400 against Arbroath.  In the last 20 years any game against Arbroath at Firhill has been lucky to have 2400 there.

Could just be paper talk about Thomas, yesterday the Daily Record had United as front runner with Thomas apparently ‘keen’ on going there, today they say DU aren’t interested. It certainly seems as if he might be trying to force his way out of QP though, absolutely baffling if they sell their best player in January when they’re bottom.

Thomas would be a welcome addition but not at any crazy money for either a wage or a fee, he’s good but he’s no that good.

Has Fitzpatrick not just passed him with his 2 goals this week ?

I was looking at football web pages which have Fitzpatrick on 7. I am not sure whether that is total or just league goals, though.

That’s total - Fitzpatrick scored 2 in the cup against Queen’s Park. So Dowds has more in the league, while Fitzpatrick has more overall.

Ok. the version I’ve got(free), doesn’t give a breakdown by competition.

Re the goals debate, we have a page which meticulously breaks down all 11,665 goals ever scored by the first team, 1876 to date.

You can sort by forename to get straight to any player for a quick look, and you can also sort the goals tallies by 3 categories, 'All Games', 'Competitive' or 'League'...

All-Time Goalscorers Charts→

You can also look at each player's individual page, where the goals are broken down one-by-one (see the 'Every Goal' tab)...

Anton Dowds →

Aidan Fitzpatrick →
