Bill1948
Would anyone pay 1.2 million for a player then give him a 1 year contract. That would be my definition of madness.
Mediocre Pundit
It's five in seven, four of which came against lower league opposition, no? Christ, one of our academy boys has scored three in six having started just one game...And he’s done it from midfield...

Mediocre Pundit
Three assists, is it? More?At least three, including one within minutes of coming on against Celtic. ETA: but remember Tony Watt once scored against Barcelona - easy to forget given how rarely it’s mentioned - so he’s clearly a top level signing.

Nizzy
Btw @RandomGuy., investment does not equal subsidy. HTH.

Afaik, they haven’t done anything like this before. Their original action was to clear our bank debt, and since then they’ve been funding the youth academy to the tune of roughly £750k a year (apparently). Up until now, they haven’t touched the transfer/playing budget. It would seem strange to start this now, especially if they’ve paid off a large compensation sum, only to sign the player involved for one year. If Coulibaly had been given a four year deal it would have made more sense - treating him as an investment. You could well be right, and that it’s a Roy McGregor-esque baws-oot-for-promotion type thing, but it doesn’t really make sense in that context, as one player isn’t the making of a team’s success (see: Queen of the South).
Fuctifano
Surely to f**k if we somehow were in a position via the Weirs to start throwing about seven figure "transfer" fees we'd be spreading it a bit thinner rather than blowing it all on one guy who hasn't played for over a year and had half a good season for Killie (and nothing else to date) in his career? We might even have been able to afford Brian Graham

bunglebonce
Thistle have a pretty good team for the second tier with or without Coulibaly (top four at worst IMO). I don't know if Coulibaly will score 20 goals, he never seemed that type of player at Killie (from a very small sample). An organised team can appear to keep him quiet, but he has the quality to score goals from nothing that could be the difference in stodgy fixtures against United and County, which will go a long way to deciding promotion. Spoiler It's easy to forget how good some of his goals were! Edited August 22, 2018 by bunglebonce

I would have thought that if the Weirs had invested in the playing staff if would have geared towards youth rather than emulating McGregor. I would find it highly unlikely that they would fund a promotion bid by funding the Coulibaly deal. I am happy that the Weirs seem to be playing the longer game in the development of the club rather than relying on one or two individuals to fund the first team. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44304566 Surprised about the meltdown that one or two of the Killie fans seem to be having over this given their impending league domination outlined by Billy Bowie. Reveal hidden contents It's easy to forget how good some of his goals were! St Mirren, last season, showed that having 2 or 3 creative players in addition to a competent defence and midfield puts you in with a good chance at topping the Championship table. If we can augment the full back position and holding midfield we might do pretty well. I'm pretty happy with all of our signings to a degree despite the lack of experience of playing in this division.

KelvindaleJag
It seems to have slipped under the radar here that the post of Lead Physiotherapist is being advertised, without any of the usual niceties over the previous incumbent (contributed to the club's progress, best wishes for the future, etc.). Maybe an optimistic announcement about Coulibaly ("subject to international clearance", i.e. it's not yet a done deal - very unusual for the club's announcements about signings) is being used to obscure that action is being taken after the previous season's disastrous medical record.

Pie Of The Month
Our disastrous medical record is more likely to be down to keeping crocks like Dumbuya, Fraser, Welsh and Bannigan around for far too long than anything else.
jagfox
Also the subject to international clearance thing is common practice for any player who last played in a different FA's jurisdiction. Of course there maybe issues unseen but as we hope everything is rosy the move would still be subject to international clearance.

As much as that is true when you consider Coulibaly's situation then a bit more of an explanation from the club rather than the standard 'subject to international clearance' would've been nice and allowed us to have avoided utter bores invading the thread to tell us what we already knew about his situation.
