Double Winning St Johnstone FC Thread

Let's not make excuses by claiming hes somehow financially beyond us. If he signs elsewhere then that's on Steve Brown.

Or that he's not considered good value at the price asked for based on form, which people might disagree with but it would at least be an understandable argument.

Not that it seems we'll get to hear anything from the club one way or the other.

The majority that post on here probably weren’t even born when the Brown family and the other 4 local business men saved Saints from oblivion.
It’s a thankless task, Saints punch well above there weight and the success we’ve had over the last 10 years is pretty decent for a club whose support is in decline while being relatively successful.
We do things the right way unlike the reckless Admin clubs we’ve seen over the years.
The club do need to head hunt somebody with a proven track record in PR, media and get the locals interested in there football club again.

Come out and say that then, rather than treating us like fucking children by making up stories to dance around it.

FWIW I cant imagine that their opinion has changed in the past week, if they never had any intention of signing him, they wouldnt have publicly said they were after him. They know how hes felt about in the Saints support.

The support is only in decline because of things like this. Literally the first day of our competitive season and we get a 'no new signings' message from the manager when we are so clearly desperate for defenders and a striker. All of this after a summer of near silence and no push/build up at all from the club. Looking at twitter/the banter page/on here you'd never know we've got our first competitive game in 9 hours time.

This summer is threatening to top the debacle of 2014 in terms of shooting ourselves in the foot with the wider support, which is some going.

This.

Fed up of folk bringing up the "we've done well recently so stop moaning about the board".

All that #money in the bank means that if we do spend a bit on a marquee signing, it's not going to lead to admin/oblivion.

And the idea we need to get one or two out before bringing anyone in, while having about 4 outfield players, 2 under 15s and Tommy Wrights grandkids available to play an actual competitive game, is beyond ridiculous.

On the other hand, we still have Jason Kerr , so all is good.

You've no idea how often that shite gets trotted out.

Two months without a win last season, folk saying its unacceptable, old boys charge in to talk about how bad it was 40 years ago and how we're lucky to be seeing a top flight side.

Every single time someone says something bad about the chairman, HIS DAD SAVED US, YOU OWE THE BROONS EVERYTHING!!

Over the past 10 years weve been something mental like the 4th best team in the country. Saints fans - "we're punching well above our weight finishing 7th"

If we can’t match Dundee’s wages because we simply don’t have as much money as them then fair enough - but if we do....very poor from Steve Brown. A lot of excitement for the upcoming season would be lost if we failed to sign May.

The support has been in decline whilst we've been relatively successful. Indeed. That is the core issue.

We're owned by people who run family businesses that don't have to sell entertainment products in a competitive environment. That's not a criticism, it's just that football is to a  large degree 'show business' - you need to sell the sizzle as well as the steak, win hearts and make people proud and passionate about to the club.

I've worked in marketing / PR (and other areas) for more than 2 decades. I can tell you this based on what I have seen of the club over the years - either they have no idea what they really have to invest to build St Johnstone as a compelling and attractive proposition, or they are terrified by it, or just not interested. I don't believe they have the natural inclination for managed risk to give the club the glamour and sparkle we need to bring the bodies back through the turnstiles.

Mid-table finishes and a solid set of books are fine but the club frankly lacks energy, personality, visibility and noise in the community. Not going bankrupt is admirable but it's a 'rational' argument, but which kids do you know that want to go to the football to stroke their chin and admire solid professionals delivering a competent 7th place every year? Who gets excited by pragmatic management?

Making investment decisions that carry some risk is not reckless when you have good people, but businesses that don't invest in winning customers eventually die. That might not mean bankruptcy but it might mean something worse - irrelevance.

Ohh look RandomGuys gone into full meltdown mode swinging for anything and everyone who is level headed. Making spurious claims and rants without knowing even half the facts.

Wouldn’t be a pre-season without that to be honest. Boys gonna have a heart attack by the age of 30 if this keeps up!

What am I making up?

TW says, today, players have to leave before players can come in.

Two separate papers report Dundee are close to getting May on a permanent deal, and that Steve Brown is refusing to sanction a move for him.

Those aren't opinions, rantings, delusions. Those are facts.

May might not be worth the money needed, but not signing him while he joins Dundee will force a section of the support away from the club, especially since it was the club itself who built the hype up around signing him. That's also a fact.

You can act like everything's dandy if you like, but if we fail to qualify out the group, the budget will be cut, and theres a chance we'll be stuck with our current squad.

You boys need a striker desperately.  Whoever was upfront on Friday night was honking.  Only Wetherspoon looked impressive and he's usually shite.  That Callahan boy needs back in the Championship/League One.  He got completely bodied by Dave Carson.

Many may have relegation release clauses and we will not have worry about money
