I voted for last night but the Germany game in 2010 was as sweet as you like. The half time seethe was in full force thanks to Lampard's "goal", but the after match analysis was just a sad faced acceptance of just how crap England actually were.

Highlight of the game was Ozil blitzing past Gareth Barry like Usain Bolt past Roddy Grant!

Sweden 92: Pumped oot, group stage, rock bottom

The 1992 tournament was also special.

The Sweden v England game was on the telly.

ITV were broadcasting it.

I think England scored first and a faint group table was shown in the background with England qualifying for the next stage.

Sweden never read the script as they then scored 2 goals and England were left bottom of the group.

That was also the competition where Scotland beat the auld USSR 3-0 which allowed Germany to progress.

I believe that the German team manager promised Craig Brown a case/bottle of scotch.

Of course that was the tournament that Denmark won after Yugoslavia was barred because they were at war with themselves.

Apparently the Denmark players (having failed to qualify) were on their holidays when they were all contacted by phone.

A remarkable and fairy tale result ending.

Last night rose above all other failures and was so enjoyable to see unfold.

I would like to give an honourable mention to a tournament they didn't even qualify for, the 1974 World Cup held in Germany.

I well remember the Polish 'keeper Jan Tomaszewski being labelled a 'clown' but defying them at Wembley.

Maybe that's why the English seem to dislike the Poles so much?

Last night was something else, but I echo everyone else's comments about the Euro 2012 shootout.

Spice boy arsehole Joe Hart pretending he is some sort of mind game specialist and getting absolutely embarrassed by Pirlo was hysterical.

Steven Gerrard's attempted passback in that France game is still the single funniest thing I've ever seen. He always loved a ridiculous hollywood ball when a simple five yard pass was all that was required, but back to his own goalkeeper? Tremendous.

In 1990 & 1996 they went out to the deserved Winner of those tournaments. 1998 they were pretty unlucky against Argentina and played well in fairness.

They got their arse handed to them in 2010 by Germany......and the Lampard "goal".....which made me chuckle.

Surprised Euro 88 wasn't included.

I think last night has to surpass Euro 2000 in terms of screw-ups. That's worse than going out on penalties or lose to a world class opponent.

Brazil qualifies for a special mention of being generally abject but they were already out (or practically so) before they played Costa Rica, IIRC.

Special mention also of WC 1950 - again in Brazil - losing to USA.

Was he not at fault for Suarez winner in Brazil 2014 too?
