I think the most likely thing to bring Trump down would be his involvement in Russian money laundering.

I think, in the end, this is where Comey was going before he got fired.

On what is turning out to be a momentous day, Trump's had his Transgender ban overturned.

Manafort and Gates pleaded not guilty, so maybe no deal with the Feds yet, unlike Papadopoulos. It will be interesting to find out if Papadopoulos's trips to Moscow which were encouraged by high level campaign staffers were paid for by Trump.

You'd think they'll maybe get Manafort to flip eventually. Especially if they start to nail others and get more and more dirt on him.

Sarah Huckabee-Sanders' press conference was painful viewing.  Some flat out lies about Papadopoulos - chiefly that he was a volunteer on a campaign council that met once.  Trump named him specifically as one of his top foreign policy advisors.

The reporters's bar bill analogy to tax reform was well squirmy.

She was just reading out what she was told to say.Much like the last press secretary you can see it in her face "ive got to say this shite"

Given Trump’s somewhat peculiar relationship with truth or objective reality that doesn’t tell us much

The Twitter thread linked to by Randy Giles up the page makes is clear, but yes, that's a fair point.  At this stage everything Trump says can be assumed to be a pointless lie.

Manafort and Gates are both looking at 40 years each, worst case scenario. The laundering charges are 20 on their own, with 5 each for the conspiracy against the US, not declaring oneself a foreign agent etc. Or Mueller can just threaten to extradite him to the Ukraine where they'll have the gallows built ready for him on the runway at Kiev airport. He gon' talk.

EDIT - unless Mueller's gotten enough from Papadopoulos and Mike Flynn (why hasn't he been charged yet? Hmmm...) that he doesn't need Manafort and can tell him to go burn when he comes looking for a plea deal. Which would be highly amusing.

It's been floated that Trump pardoned sheriff Arpaio as a dummy run for when his pals needed one.
No need to 'flip' or go to jail if you've got a corrupt president in your corner.

Her press conferences have become a farce.  It would be more honest to just not hold them, but honesty has no place in the Trump White House.

Hence Trump predictably taking the bait this morning and distancing himself by saying it was all pre-campaign. He can just about get away with pardoning Sheriff Joe by saying the guy was doing his best - illegally detaining brown people isn't much of a problem to the Republicans - he's just made these potential pardons way harder to justify. Also he can't pardon state crimes so when a pardon is taken as an admission of guilt, Andrew Cuomo can charge them for money laundering offenses in the state of New York.

Trump would be impeached or removed by his cabinet if he tried that.

That’s what rational conservatives are most worried about. They know that Trump’s considering across-the-board pardons, which would basically tear the Republican Party asunder.

They'll tolerate him until the tax cuts go through and throw him under the bus once that's done.
