I split up with my first partner when I was 22 because he wanted marriage and kids and I absolutely didn't. I'm fairly ambivalent to marriage but don't want kids under any circumstances, fortunately my current boyfriend is the same. We've been happily living in sin for 11 years now [emoji4]

Fucking depressing to read grown men discussing how they never want to get married or have kids, yet admitting they'll probably end up doing it at some point to keep someone else happy. You're mad if you go into something like that without being sure that it's what you want for the rest of your life. So many folk seem to do it too.

No girl is that dirty, folks. If you don't want to commit, let her go find someone who does, and you'll be just fine.

Piecing together a few posts I reckon you're doing really well in tricky circumstances, Dave.  You certainly get my respect.

Mine's accumulating cardigans left, right, and centre - I should probably just STFU on the topic of marriage

Nah...it goes deeper than that.  You're a thoroughly decent bloke.

Your scaring me now.

See, I've left you a nice typo to keep you going, and something something Sevco too  :P

Exactly this. I've got loads of mates that have ended up getting married to people they were in unhappy relationships with just because they didn't want to be single/on their own.

How can you hate yourself so much that you'd rather live unhappily with someone instead of being on your own?!

Lazy thinking, SJC but it takes while to know it.  I'm currently living alone, have my kids staying with me (about) twice a week and have a squeeze I see 2/3 times a month and the 7 of us go out every now and then.

I'm happy I have someone I get along well with.  I absolutely could not live with her nor she with me.

Why is it lazy thinking? You live on your own and are quite clearly happy with that. I'm on about the ones that aren't.

" How can you hate yourself so much that you'd rather live unhappily with someone instead of being on your own" is down to lazy thinking.  I was agreeing with you but expressed myself poorly.

I have a half bottle of atrociously @bennett expensive Fino sherry in the fridge that I bought last week...and am keeping cold for Xmas day despite its "drink me" Alice in Wonderland calling.

Very nice.

This is traditional at my Christmas family gatherings: sadly I won't be there this year for some :(
