Hope to god it's not Moult. Another Dargo if it is. Over the past 2 days we are being linked with Moult and McGeady. We don't have enough physios at the club to sign these 2.

Nothing like Dargo at all

When we signed Dargo he was 2 years younger than Moult is now and had just completed the 2 best seasons in his career in terms of both scoring goals and being injury free.

Moult hasn’t done anything for 5 years now.

Our problem with Dargo is that he promptly got injured in pre season straight after signing for us and was never able to replicate his ICT form for us

Come on Robbo, the suspense is killing us. Or is it the hope? The hope that it’s not Doidge, not Moult, not …

The striker might have had a change of heart over the weekend or received a better offer once he reached Gretna service station

Dargo gets singled out for treatment (nae pun intended) in terms if his injury record, but no-one was more frustrated about that than the player himself.

Nah, you have taken this too far. I’m sure our guys are well aware of what is expected of them over the summer break.

A very short close season due to last year's WC - I'm not sure even Mark Yardley could have gotten out of shape in seven weeks.

I'm not talking about our defeat at the weekend. Yes, that lies squarely with us. Of course it does.

What I am saying is that I think one of our two national Cup competitions is devalued on account of clubs (all or any) being expected to play without their squads for the season being in place.

The argument that injuries and suspensions are an equivalence is specious. That is a depleted squad on account of the natural course of events in a season, but still technically a full squad.

There's not really such a thing as a "squad for the season", given that clubs sign players right up to the deadline in August (and sometimes after), and then again in January. There are also usually about 4 league games played before the end of the transfer window - does that mean the Premiership is devalued too?

What's the difference? How is the Premiership season starting during the window different to the League Cup starting during the window?

Clubs have had to play in Europe at this time of year for ages - does that devalue those competitions too?

Contracts typically expire at the end of a season and the close/pre-season is when there is the greatest churn.

Clubs will typically be more ready to embark on a campaign in August as that has been the traditional season KO.  Introducing a national cup competition when the major squad building process is underway is a very different scenario.

FFS, you are building a straw man argument to make a point. The difference is the cup started on July 15th and the league starts on August 6th. I believe the first games of the season should be in the league and that the players should be given an adequate time to build MATCH fitness during what is a relatively short preseason. I  don't need you to agree with me yet you seem to need me to agree with you.

I believe this, you don't.......... fair enough.

It's not like you lost to a Premier League team.

TBH if we had played Montrose in a friendly I would have expected to win, we were awful 🤣

I have honestly felt this way since they changed the calendar, just my opinion 😎

I have no issue with the format, just the timing of the start of the competition.

The summer is traditionally when clubs do the majority of their transfer business and to have a major cup competition start on July 15th when clubs are still trying to recruit and get fitness is unhelpful.

True.

No excuse for the team we fielded last summer or the team on Saturday to lose to part time teams though, as it will be even harder for them to recruit and get up to fitness.
