If it's a 'nasty' challenge then its timing is irrelevant. Slightly mistiming a challenge and making contact with a player isn't even remotely 'nasty', isn't automatically reckless play and so isn't necessarily a yellow card.

There was little 'diving in' at all in the second challenge - you'd be as well taking a player immediately off the pitch after a yellow card if that is the sort of ridiculous benchmark being set. But teams don't of course, because no other referee than this clown would have awarded another yellow for such a nothing foul.

The first was a booking. Second one is exactly the sort of foul that will happen in games of fives across the country and won't even be noticed as the player on the end of it won't go rolling around the floor.
