Annoying in or out of work.

Today I discovered that he isn't actually work shy at all. He just needs told what, when, where and why. He rarely asks questions or looks I terested but you push him into it and tell him why it's done and how and he's basically one of the best set of hands I've had in my years of labourers/trainees. It's fucking wild what the Army does to folk. I was told a few weeks back he asks to week with me because it's boring with others. I thought I made it a laugh and enjoyable. Maybe he just likes getting told what to do. My old boss from about a decade ago was ex-Royal Engineers and his work ethic was unreal. His thought process when going into any job was always well thought out, logical and made perfect sense. It's kind of rubbed off on me too, if I have to go to a site I'm there sharp, having planned and prepped and made sure I've got everything I need to complete the job and I plan for if I won't finish the job or run into issues or problems when I'm there. That all sounds like common sense, but for the majority of gimps I've worked with, in various jobs over the years, it isn't. You'd be amazed how many folk would go to a job alone or with me, and be completely underprepared for it, run into issues and have to go back another day to finish it. When I worked with this guy from the Army that never happened once, nor does it ever happen to me when I'm on a solo trip.

Busta Nut
What's the standard/expected amount of compassionate leave offered by companies? My Da died and I've been given 1 week. Given it'll take about 3 weeks from start to finish I think that's bullshit.

When my dad died last year I took 4 days - the day he died and the next day, and the day of his funeral and the day after. I probably could have taken more. It was 3 weeks or so from death to funeral, and I really didn't want to not work in between. My sister's employer gave her 4 weeks off.

There's a very apt name for these c***s. Wretch.

Are you able to at least break the week up for as and when you need it, e.g. a couple of days to get your head around things, another for arrangements etc and then a couple for the funeral itself? Times like this prove that you're just a number to some of these cvnts, so if you get paid sick leave I'd be firing a line in first thing tomorrow and go back when you're good and ready. f**k them.
Busta Nut
I think my manager would have given 3/4 weeks nae hassle but she's went on annual leave for that amount of time. They've suggested sick leave which I didn't want to do but I think I am gonna fire in about 8 weeks.

Dunno if you're close enough to your direct manager to fire her a quick message or email whilst shes on AL, but if she's a bit more compassionate and got your back more than whoever you're dealing with I her absence, I'd give it a shot. Otherwise, f**k it mate, as long as you get paid get the line fired in. No-one can be expected to get over the loss of a parent or any close family member for that matter in a week ffs. You can bet your arse the cvnt telling you you're only due a week would be doing the same if they were in your position.
parsforlife
We're 3 days bereavement too, Load of bollocks, takes more than that over practicalities never mind emotions. Decent bosses will look after you here, if they don't punch their puss.

I work for the council and we are 5 days max and even then that's only if it's an immediate relative and you are involved with making the funeral arrangements. As mentioned, if you are going to get paid get the sick line fired in and don't feel the slightest bit guilty about it. I was off for 3 weeks before my dad died (terminal cancer with a long hospice stay) and another 5 after, and my head was still up my arse when I went back.
