RH33
Erskine has a bridge. There ends any architectural or engineering interest the town posseses.

Cosmic Joe
I always think they missed an opportunity to build a mosque in the Nethergate. Could have been Ecumenical.
carpetmonster
I do like the Merchandise Mart in Chicago simply for it's absolute behemothicity, if that's a word. Coming north over the bridge on the train it doesn't so much loom at you as it does simply become the entire landscape for a couple of minutes And it's certainly not my favourite, but I do kind of admire the Metropolitan Correctional Center for looking just straight up evil. It's right across the street from the Department of Immigration building, which certainly sharpens the mind not to tell any porkies in a green card interview.

Given “The Flying Saucer” used to be right across the street…and now the “Flying Saucer Draught Emporium” is just around the corner…it’s a shame they stopped selling those puppies. Always found these types of metropolitan block buildings in the states quite interesting, like the AT&T long lines building in Manhattan or numerous metro jails in cities. You’d walk straight past without a second thought unless you catch a glimpse from further away and wonder why there’s a block of flats or an office with no or very few windows.

Still, whether you're renovating a classic structure or starting from scratch, the quality of your building materials is crucial. MEADOWXI
This is the view from my living room window, From the left, Aberdeen townhouse ( the wee balcony on the big tower I have only seen used once in 6 years, when Denis Law was made Freeman of the City, apparently if AFC ever win anything that where they show it to the city. Not much used in recent years). The Townhouse also includes the Sheriff Courts, 2nd smaller tower is the Tollhouse clock, wee museum inside and currently covered in scaffolding for refurbishment. The right end of the building was originally branch of the North of Scotland Bank. Now a Wetherspoon called Archibald Simpson who was the architect that designed it and many of the granite buildings in Aberdeen city centre. That is the Archibald Simpson in full (with Townhouse as is under scaffold), looks down the Castlegate square at the end of Union Street. And that is the Roman goddess Ceres that has sat above the North of Scotland Bank/ Archibald Simpson since 1844 But if I want to walk 200 metres round the corner I have ACC HQ, the former Marischal College with old Church of Scotland joined on. Beautifully refurbished. Aberdeen has some stunning buildings

Aberdeen has some stunning buildings People don't associate Aberdeen with architecture, as it lacks Edinburgh's civic buildings or Glasgow's industrial landscapes - nor the hills or river - but it has a lot of fine buildings. Especially churches e.g.: St Machar St Nicholas (now redundant) Greyfriars John Knox (now redundant) Beechgrove (now flats) Ferryhill Gilcomston South (now Evangelical) Holburn West (now redundant) Langstane (now bar) Mannofield
