There was no free pass nor bypass, clubs had to vote and that meant taking responsibility for that decision. I thought the majority of the SPL and SFL clubs were brilliant in not caving in not so much with Rangers trying to convince but the pressure put on them from those in power and the popular media. The end result was a compromise, however were the SFL clubs would have had to vote where this newco would be placed. The alternative was the 4th tier being reduced to 9 clubs, no other club beneath the Scottish League was ready to step up at the time. This hostile takeover stuff was shut down at the time - the SPL rules did not allow it. Several other clubs would have been ready and able to step up had there been a vacancy - when Gretna went bust in 2008 there were four applicants (Cove, Spartans, Preston and Annan) despite the vacancy only really coming up at short notice (as it would have in 2012). Had Rangers actually properly gone to the wall with no newco stepping in, then someone else would definitely have taken up that spot. However, this ongoing suggestion that the newco Rangers jumped the queue or bypassed the process is a bit disingenuous. There was never any requirement to hold an election or have a formal application process, and it would have been a waste of everyone's time as one of the other posters pointed out. It's unlikely any other club would even have bothered applying. And of course, the SFL clubs did vote to elect Rangers to the league anyway,

The likes of Dino Zoff, Pat Jennings, Peter Shilton, Lev Yashin were all in the top two picks for their national team goalie in their forties. Sevco provides us with plenty of ribbing material without having to make something out of nothing...

Agreed, but what Staunchco need is to build a team that will grow together over a number of years if they are to have any chance of achieving any sort of success, not short-term relatively-big-name signings. They should of course have started this 5/6 years ago when they first came into existence.

It's a final GIRUY to Kenny Miller so he's no longer the only player to have played for both rangers imo

Wrong Steve Clarke. Steve Clarke is a fairly common name, and it's par for the course for Scottish footballing journalists to mistake identities - like that of whichever Chinese football team was throwing megabucks at Freddy Morelos. The truth is that Rangers weren't approaching Kilmarnock's Steve Clarke, who is clearly overqualified, having actually coached professional football teams before. Rangers actually got knocked back by Steve Clarke, an unemployed gas meter reader from Dagenham who got a high score in Football Manager 2011, and coaches his local Primary School under 11's team.
