Cerberus
White bread, butter, sugar. My wee granny was from Ireland and she'd make me a piece and sugar after school. I don't have them any more. I'm an adult now so I use some of that Pillsbury vanilla frosting instead of sugar.

Bairnardo
My gran used to roll a wee ball of butter in sugar for a sore throat. Throats fine now, diabetes is a bit of a c**t.

Then adding bread into that equation?
NJ2
My parents used to have a piece with butter and sugar, more so my mother being from a poor family (catholics, many kids) but it was never something forced on me. I don’t mind a piece with just butter though to be fair. Easy and convenient wee snack.
Jumbo Muir
Piece and sugar or a piece and jam was the instant energy boost provider when spending the whole summer tearing around yer bit on your bike. Happy days and never did me any harm. We were considered upper middle class too, bought house and a car.

There is no shame in coming from a poor family. Having your life dictated by the Catholic Church however....

Surprisingly filling and tasty, may have tried it again as a poor student once or twice.

Surprisingly filling and tasty, may have tried it again as a poor student once or twice. I’ve retaken to it recently (it’s a while since I was a poor student) and as you say, surprisingly filling and tasty...also very quick an convenient.

Gaz
My sister used to love a piece on butter and sugar. That's not a euphemism, by the way.

Placing bread on top of the filling is just stupid
