Who is this Desmond guy anyway? Does he work for the club? Family member of players/staff etc?

A man of integrity

SRE FB imploding right now with posts about people leaving because of abuse.

Just looks like a normal Thursday to me tbh.

Tbf I have found our home performances to be a form of abuse as well.

Scott Brown as manger would certainly raise the profile of the club and you would think it would attract a higher standard of player

Are there any examples of this actually being the case? Did Clyde manage to bring anyone special in because of Ferguson?

If there is a slight effect, surely it's way less important than having a proven track record and a thousand other things when it comes to hiring a manager.

If the best thing you can say about a prospective manager is "he might help us attract slightly better players and it'll raise the profile of the club" not "he's good at winning games and putting together a squad", then you should hope they're not the only one you're interviewing.

He was a mediocre Ayr United manager at best. What the f**k is wrong with people?

It’s difficult to shake the taste of “succulent lamb”. And gammon for the SRE population, lest they forget.

McCall raised the profile of the club by having us score a load of goals and win a load of games.

It's a surprisingly simple and successful formula.

The good old days, when you looked forward to going to the football on a Saturday. And entertainment was aplenty.

The only way it possibly could be is if the manager manages to attract some quality loanees using his contacts, players that otherwise might have been loaned somewhere else. But even then you'd imagine the player would have a say and want to go to the best club possible.

But you are spot on, the idea that professional footballers are going to choose to play at a lower level than they are capable of, and by extension get paid less, because they either know the manager or because they admired him as a player is nonsense.

The exception that proves the rule being that time Benni McCarthy turned out for Whitehill Welfare.

(Actually, I think it was a link with a player, not the manager there. Which leads me to think anyone swayed by being managed by Brown would already have been swayed by playing alongside McGeady.)
