The F1 Thread

I enjoyed that. Not a lot of action but plenty of tension and the size of Norris' win is a new development in the title race. Verstappen is wringing every second out of that car but one DNF and he's probably toast, so every corner counts. Russell did really well to hold off Le Clerc.

Some regulars on this thread, I often wonder if they actually like F1.

It's a huge save for Verstappen to finish 2nd in that car, and Danny Ric getting fastest lap is a huge bonus for him. Very hard to call the title now, Norris has all the momentum but probably needs to win most of the races from now on. I still have a nagging feeling him or his team will do something stupid somewhere

Gets a 2 point lead on 2nd to last race in Qatar , DNFs midway through in Abu Dhabi by getting involved with a battle for 2nd with Russell with piastri in first with verstappen who was struggling a mile back in 6th eases round for the majority of the race to win it with the final few laps being under safety car cos Perez has crashed when verstappen was beginning to lose time on those behind him.

The f**king breakdown afterwards would be golden.

Going to go out on a limb and suggest he has a fair bit of say but is just a massive arse.

Yea, he's been asked about his opinion before on radio, the team agreeing to it and 3 laps later he's mouthing off at them cos he's lost time.

Ricciardo going for a fast lap here definitely isn't Red Bull collusion 👀

Around .5 sec faster than anyone else and the fastest lap of the race.

Looks like a goodbye from Daniel Ricciardo in his final race., maybe F1 career over.

Next step - career as F1 Sky TV pundit beckons.

This is naïve. It was clearly a Red Bull decision to protect Verstappen in the Championship.

Wouldn't surprise me if he fancied a shot at Nascar in some capacity.

Colapinto needs to get a seat for next season

Some step up from Sargeant. Who's left - RB and Sauber? RB took one driver from Williams after he did well in reserve for them and fired him halfway through so might not do the same gain, but Colapinto looks a good talent.

The Ricciardo and fastest lap was just weird - he was doing nothing so pitted for fastest lap in last race? With it benefitting Verstappen and it being sister team questions going to be asked.

Ricciardo's career really went backwards fast - moving to Renault was a weird decision, but once Norris outpaced him, he was done. Villeneuve might have been a bit blunt but he wasn't wrong and grain of truth that Netflix kept him on the grid.

I thought it made some sense at the time. Lead driver in a works car, in the team that gave Schumacher and Alonso titles in the past.

But he seemed to lose something there, and of course Renault (now Alpine) turned out to be a basket case team. Even now, they're midfield jobbers,

Lance Stroll randomly took a fastest lap earlier this season after pitting from like 15th, and it has happened in the past. Hardly a new phenomenon.

Yes but this took a point away from the blessed lando 😉

Schedule for the rest of the season is a bit mad. There's now a month off before three races in three weeks - then another three weeks off before another three races in three weeks.

The summer break has always made sense but this is a bit weird.

Has he? Stroll was on for beating Herbert's record of most race starts without a fastest lap at the weekend?

It also took a point from McLaren in the constructors. It just doesn't look good to make a special stop, drop to last and grab fastest lap which benefits sister teams.

I get what you say, but I didn't like that he wasn't up for the fight at Red Bull. That car was always going to be competitive, whereas I don't think anyone saw Renault developing a race winning car in the same time frame.

Naïve? What are you talking about? He stuck around for for a long time saying thanks and goodbye to everyone.

Apologies if wires have been crossed here. I thought you meant the fastest lap was all about Ricciardo saying goodbye.

This season is starting to look like Button's WDC win in 2009.

There, he won 6 of the first 7 races, and didn't win again that season. Clung on to the title lead to the end.

This year, Verstappen has won 7 of the first 10 races, might not win again, but will probably keep the driver's title.
