Hamilton is ahead when they start braking, so it's basically Verstappen overtaking at the point. If that was a normal pass then you would say someone missing the apex and going off track to complete the move is more at fault or liable for a penalty.

In the words of christian horner “it was lewis’ corner”. Its very hard racing from max which i like but again its the consistency from the stewards that cause the issue, one weekend they issue penalties for everything and the next they have a (words of horner again) let them race attitude.

as a driver in F1 terms probably decent enough, but when there are more talented drivers around waiting for their opportunity to break into F1 having very wealthy backing helps, plus the untapped Chinese market.

It's always a balance between money and talent - if the extra funds helps Alfa Sauber to improve their car then that can make up for some of the talent deficit.

Seems like an absolute state for that last minute or two of qualifying. I assume race direction didn't want the yellow flag to interfere with any laps so revoked the call? Weird scenario for the three of them where there's nothing on their dash or light panels but a marshal is still waving a yellow.

Here's the onboards https://streamable.com/uodtzr

The yellow light panel went off just as Norris was coming round, Ocon doesn't get anything, then with Gasly rolling past the marshals post they start waving a single yellow for Bottas and Sainz, double for Verstappen. Reason for the light going off could be the marshal pressing the wrong button as it goes white for Max, or race control doing something.

Shambles. Can only assume it's inexperience from the marshals. Interesting to see how the stewards resolve it.

It was odd on the tv coverage cause it does come on first saying sector 2 then off and then on sector 3 and then off with the comms both saying that ‘there’s no yellow flags, they must be happy that gasly is clearly off the racing line’

Very odd ending.

Bottas 3 places Max 5 places grid penalty

So track clear Drs allowed was the official Fia state of the track at the time it's all a bit of shambles as has been said and Sainz gets nothing
