Dull race but one that showed the quality of the two drivers. Verstappen drove off into the distance and was never really troubled. Kept it on track, no issues, good speed.

Hamilton I thought drove the wheels off the Mercedes. Had that been Bottas instead of him in second place, Perez would have taken him easily.

Hoping for a bit more drama next time out.

Hamilton gets a grid penalty for an engine change, so will start from 6th at best. They're getting the excuses warmed up nicely just in case they're needed:

Quote

On Thursday, when Hamilton said he did not know whether he would have to take a new engine, he had already warned that making up places in Brazil would be tricky.

“This is not a very good track for overtaking,” he said. “You have that long straight but it is on the edge of the list of the hardest places for overtaking of the year. You have to have a 1.1-second advantage on the car ahead to have a 50% chance of overtaking.”

They (not just Mercedes/Hamilton*) come out with this same numberwang pish at nearly every fucking event. Hungary, Mexico etc. have all been built up to be like Monaco recently, until someone else on the grid presses the glorified overtake button and oh look they're through no bother. It's the F1 equivalent of '*shitehole ground* is always a tough place to go to and win'.

Don't build a car that cannot run in traffic properly and you wouldn't have this problem.

But mostly it's Mercedes/Hamilton.

Hamilton’s car has failed a check on the rear wing. Referred to the stewards and now likely to start the sprint in last place.

That would be most unfortunate.

The stewards have adjourned till the morning to await for further evidence which won’t be available til then (what evidence do they need? A Mercedes brand measuring tape) meanwhile Max has been summoned for breaching rule 2,5,1 which is unauthorised checking in parc ferme.

Is Mercedes defence that they shouldn’t be punished because Max spotted the infringement under parc ferme conditions.

If so, i await Max being DQd from the championship and the award of his points to lewis.

They really should've clarified on drivers inspecting cars years ago. Vettel has been messing with his own and competitors cars after quali/race for years and hasn't seen the stewards once as far as I'm aware.

Having said that, if Max knew beforehand that there was something dodgy about the rear wing he should've avoided inspecting it completely. Mercedes are always going to blame their direct competitor touching the very part that failed during parc ferme.
Season over for Lewis, fine for Max and a clarification of the rules is what I'm expecting.
