vikingTON
A round of two rums, a can of Coke and a pint of cider just cost £5.70 in the dirty wee Port. Premise of the thread seems invalid IMO.

MONKMAN
Every town still has its decent jakie pubs where the drink flows cheap. The best thing about these establishments, is that their reputations tend to keep the pretentious arseholes away. It has a mobile kebab van that stays outside the front Thu-Sun. First time I went in was a Wednesday afternoon, there was nobody else in so I sat in the corner having a read of the paper, supping my £2.65 Stella. The door then got booted in by this fella who was screaming something, he was really going for it, I couldn't work out if he was pissed or angry or a mixture of the two. The fella behind the bar came round and I thought it was about to kick off, but he gave the guy a trifle. One of those you'd buy from any supermarket that serve between 3-4 (or 2 if you felt particularly greedy). The bloke promptly sat down and started eating away and nothing more was said. I've not gone back to The Star.

LinkinFighter
Quite enjoy a few pints in the pub, as others have said it's atmosphere and company that is important.
MONKMAN
It's been said many times before on here that drinking pints of lager with nothing but one's own company, in a quiet jakie pub, is one of the greatest pleasures in life.

I used to always stop in at pubs when I had a few minutes to spare when I lived out with Glasgow/Edinburgh and was down visiting for the weekend. Since I’ve lived in Edinburgh I hardly ever do it now, couldn’t tell you the last time I stopped in at a pub just for the sake of doing it which is a real shame. Must try harder. kev23
What is it you have against drinking at home? People who drink at home are not #DECE. But seriously if you get wound up about paying £10 for 4 pints in a pub and instead have 4 tins on the couch to save yourself a fiver, you're either strange or have no friends. This a million times. Used to think having a pint alone was loser/loner/jakie material when I was younger. Now I appreciate a nice quiet pint. I don’t know how old you are but you are making incredibly rash statements, people drink in the house all the time regardless of if they are strange or have friends or not. I have lots of friends that I could meet up with for a bee if I wanted, I also like drinking beer in the comfort of my own sitting room and not being hassled by anyone. The latter tends to be the most rational option when I have a one year old to look after as well.
Flybhoy
There's nout wrong with a few cans or a bottle of wine in the house, especially when combined with a football match on TV or even a film from time to time, I often enjoy doing this on a Sunday if Celtic have played the previous day and there are a couple of decent games on SKY and/or BT, folk that do that all the time and never venture out to a pub and socialise with fellow human beings are, as kev23 pointed out rather odd to say the least.
