I think that all of this is pretty much true.

Omnicron is manna from heaven for Johnson just now, and in the last week he's being throwing it on the table like dead cats were going out of fashion. It's a horrific politicising of the pandemic, but as Johnson is utterly shameless, what does he care ?

He's desperate to survive past Christmas, and a fast spreading variant which may or may not be deadly is a beautiful thing for him just now.

The by-election will go the way that you describe it. There'll be a significantly reduced turn out as Tory voters stay at home, but when push comes to shove they're still Tories.....and they won't vote against the party. The Labour and LibDem vote will split and Johnson will breath a sigh of relief for the meantime.

I also agree with you about the fact that he's a shambling liability....in Scotland especially....and as much as I'd love him to be personally humiliated, for the good of the bigger picture it's better that he holds on as long as possible. It would be lovely to go into the next GE and then the 2nd referendum with the picture of an utterly discredited Johnson hanging over voters.

Exactly this. Johnson will limp on and barring any more massive revelations will bluster his way through. As you say, Covid is a bit if a gift, but for him, now folk have turned, in a way his bombastic wings have been clipped. His biggest threat isn't the public, its his own party now.

Boris is like Trump he just lies, doesnt acknowledge, diverts, says one thing then the complete opposite

the media and people in general nowadays are so in the moment only that this actually seems to work with instant news and social media, theres no depth or substance to anything

Good point about the media and people being in the moment.

Sensationalism, winging it, buzzwords and controversy can be a winning formula it seems.

yeah politics on all sides needs some real leaders to stand up and look at the long term, nows the time for anyone with real conviction and integrity to show some courage and plan for the long term not short term soundbites

I think people would buy into it after a while if whoever it is willing to struggle through the shite at the start

What are you talking about? We've always been at war with Eurasia.

(God, I feel dirty for paraphrasing Orwell)

“Let’s talk about Boris Johnson,” said Webb. “Why bother?” snapped Javid. Er … because he’s the prime minister and he’s up to his neck in trouble over the exponential spread of Downing Street parties. “What are his qualities?” Webb persisted. Other than that he’s a liar and raging narcissist.

The Saj paused. Trying to dig up just one positive thing to say. “Er … I think people who watched the prime minister’s TV address will have seen someone focused on the nation’s challenges.” Or not. Most will have seen a wreck of a human in his late 50s with the haircut of a 10-year-old who had wandered into a skunk farm with a pair of secateurs by mistake. Someone who was too scared to do a press conference in case he was asked any difficult questions.

The SYSTEM is fkd. Makes no difference who the talking clown leader is. Haven't you noticed ?

Unfortunately a democratic, political party system in a capitalist society with media on the sidelines will always produce such people.

You'll always have the following:

  • Politicians having to toe the party line at the expense of their true view.  This will inevitably involve lying.
  • Politicans having to say or do things to grab the headlines and boost their profile.
  • Politicians being negative toward each other and aiming for 'gotchas' instead of setting out their stall.
  • Media intentionally trying to railroad politicians into 'slipping up' to boost their sales.

The combative, disingenuous, fake and rude behaviour of SNP moral high-ground crusader Stephen Flynn MP towards Dr Jordan Peterson on Question Time last month is a prime example of what is allowed to flourish in the system we have.  His demeanour was nasty and childish and it's clear he didn't believe what he was saying, certainly not with the conviction he put it across, but it allowed him to occupy the moral high-ground, grab the limelight and get some cheap claps from the crowd.

The worst part of it is, there's no better way.

"Johnson’s fate rests with those who elevated him, the nexus of parties-within-a-party that hold the real Tory power. This week Steve Baker MP relaunches Conservative Way Forward, founded to guard Margaret Thatcher’s flame. These idolaters ask themselves “What would Maggie do?” with as little historical sense as those who claim to know the answer to “What would Jesus do?” A prime saboteur, Baker is an agent in all the rightwing caucuses that riddle the Tory party. He chairs the Covid Recovery Group, which is stirring the plan B rebellion; he is a core member of the European Research Group (ERG); a member of the Global Warming Policy Foundation, a group of deniers blocking climate-saving action; and founder of the Cobden Centre, promoting hardline free-market economics. As a sky-diving, born-again Christian who was baptised in the sea, Baker also belongs to the Cornerstone group for family, faith and flag, and voted against same-sex marriage."

Surely that's tantamount to a vote of no confidence?

Jaicket definitely on a shoogly nail.

I think, in the long term( a short long term?)he is toast. The by election on Thursday will be another blow. Even if they win, I suspect their majority will be slashed severely. Even their new MP from the Sidcup by election rebelled against him.

That very point put to wet blanket Starmer on Sky...should The Scarecrow resign, will Labour call for his resignation.

The response..."he needs to take a long hard look at himself" WTAF. Starmer and the pathological liar should both be resigning. As incompetent as each other.

Totally agree. They are as bad as each other, with the useless Starmer, apparently quite content to play second fiddle in a very cosy cartel situation. The theatrics they go through, week in, week out at PMQs gets more and more nauseating.

Scotland should be doubling, and redoubling its determination to break free from the Westminster circus.
