Richey Edwards
I informed my friend that she was getting cheated on. It didn't go down very well. It was common knowledge tbh. She was just oblivious to it.

welshbairn
Sometimes people know or suspect what's going on, can handle it, and just want it to remain unspoken. I'd be very wary before sticking my oar in, as it were. Edited September 30, 2019 by welshbairn
Blootoon87
Years ago in a nightclub I saw my pals missus pulling some guy. I asked her what she was playing at and she ran off. About 20 mins later I was speaking to some quine and she stormed back in and started windmilling me. She only got one decent punch in before the bouncers chucked her out.

tongue_tied_danny
I'd keep my geggie shut. About 10 years ago I started seeing some seriously hot Polish burd but after a few weeks I got dumped like a heavy shit. She just cut me off completely, stopped speaking to me with no explanation at all. I found out about six months later that a "mate" had been spouting a load of shite behind my back . Left a bad taste in my mouth so I would never interfere in anything that doesn't concern me.

I feel a retro-colloquialisms thread is required.

Popular Post LondonHMFC
When I first moved South, I stayed with my Aunty & Uncle for a few months, just to get settled. Anyway, one day I came back from work and my Uncle was on the PC in their office. He obviously didn't hear me, and as I walked into the room, he quickly turned round, saw me and switched the monitor off. I didn't say anything, just said I was going to go out with the Mrs for a few drinks. As I'm about to leave, the phone goes and I go to answer it, he basically wrestled it out my hand and went upstairs with it. I went through to the office, and rattled a few letters on the keyboard so it didn't go to sleep and lock out. He came downstairs and was reasonably well dressed (which was odd as he was usually bit of a scruff round the house) and said he was going out to see a friend. At this point my Mrs arrived and needed the loo, so as he left, I ran into the office and luckily the machine hadn't locked out. I just went onto Chrome, into the history and it was just filled of local escorts (not the Ford kind). The Mrs says she always remembers walking in, and finding me just shell shocked. I explained what happened, and then we just went through all the pages, there was fucking loads. She suggested doing 1471 and seeing if there is a number, and there was. We Googled it and it came up as belonging to a young Asian girl who listed all of her "services". I had no idea what to do, I was still relatively young, and the thought of dropping a bomb shell onto a family members relationship didn't seem too appealing. We went out, not before ringing the house phone to change the last number (still not sure why I did this), and stayed out for a few hours, just having a booze to numb the shock. Eventually it was time to go back, as the house came into sight, I could see that my Aunty was home. I said that I couldn't say anything there and then. Once we got in, my Uncle called us through to the kitchen where they were eating. As we walked through, there was an air of nervousness, but that was short lived as my Uncle then came out with the immortal line "have you two eaten? I was meant to be cooking, but fancied a Chinese". As soon as those words left his mouth, my Mrs turned around, and I could just hear her stifling laughter, my Aunt & Uncle looked a tad confused. I made excuses and just went to my room, where my girlfriend was crying with laughter into the pillow. I rung my Mum (Sister of my Aunt) and told her everything, she said due to the delicate situation, just to keep quiet, but if I was ever asked then to tell the truth. That was a good few years back now, and it's never been brought up. I think I made the correct decision, on the surface they appear very content and have moved into a new house recently, but part of me does wonder if it was a one off, or a regular thing.

So basically your family all know that your uncle is cheating on your auntie? That's pretty grim.
Guest JTS98
I suppose it depends. I went out with a bird for a couple of years in my early twenties and obviously got to know her pals and their boyfriends etc. Bunch of fannies whose company I found excruciating, but there you go. Anyway, my then girlfriend's best friend had a boyfriend who I took an instant disliking to. Just a bit of a p***k. After a while I realised that it was common knowledge among my girlfriend and her pals that this guy was regularly cheating on his girlfriend, their mate. Nobody wanted to say anything and they used all the excuses in the book. "She's happy". "He's really nice to her". "It's none of our business". So, this carried on and eventually the couple got married and had two kids. I split up with my ex and lost touch with the situation. But my mum and my ex's mum are mates and a couple of years ago the woman discovered that her now husband had routinely been shagging around for years and it hadn't stopped. Huge fuss. Kicked him out, kids involved, mortgage involved etc. I don't know what's going on now, like I said I'm out that loop now. But maybe if somebody had told her what this guy was up to years ago, it might have saved an awful lot of mess and heartache down the line. She might have chosen to break up with him at 23/24 before things had got really serious. While she'd have been upset at the time, it wouldn't have been nearly as big a deal as it's turned into. And at least she'd have had the informed choice whether to stay with him or not and whether to marry him, have kids with him and buy a house with him or not. As it turns out she agreed to do all of these things without an important piece of information all of her mates had. I'm not sure that's ok. F**k it, I'm off to buy a tub of ice-cream and spend the day on mumsnet. Edited October 1, 2019 by JTS98
Busta Nut
I think I'd tell a mate. I'd want to know. I'd only tell them though. Nae gossipin'.
sjc
Always best to say nothing in my opinion, for two reasons: 1. As pointed out previously, there's a tendency for the messenger to be shot. And 2. You don't know what goes on within someone else's relationship. Some people have discreet open relationships (for a variety of reasons) on the basis of "don't ask, don't tell" with their partner, whilst at the same time not openly wanting to humiliate them. So my advice would be to say nothing to nobody.
Dee Man
I told my a guy I know his mate was banging his missus behind his back - he then proceeded to kick f**k out of me! Then I remembered it was me who was banging his missus. Not really.
Popular Post Derry Alli
Pretty alarming to see folk would let their mates get the pish ripped out them for fear of "shooting the messenger" or even worse "it's not my relationship". Some mates.
