Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I would imagine that there's less need to limit outdoor activities up here in Scotland.

You're probably right, but we have other issues. Two chaps from Oban were arrested the other day after having to be rescued from Glencoe, putting mountain rescue volunteers at risk unnecessarily.

One of my 80+ relatives

Yeah, yeah, you're not the only one with a large family, no need to boast.

To vaccinate everyone with two doses presumably?

Yeah, two jabs

Makes sense but we don't need to vaccinate everyone to get us back to life as we knew it before covid spread.

Get the vulnerable groups done first and start to open up.

900k getting their first dose in January would be a huge step towards that. I find that an encouraging figure from today.

There’s a massive correlation in the people that are raging over this new lockdown and them having ignored the rules this entire time.

Also Tesco in Dundee was quiet.

Everybody in Dundee is broke after Christmas.

Is it just me or does the panic buying today seen even more bizarre then normal?

The shops will still be there tomorrow.

Nothing has changed regarding food sales.

I went and bought 20 loaves, forgetting I've still got 23 left from when I stocked up for New Year. What am I like?

Can't help but wonder how many additional lives and livelihoods have been lost due to pressure groups and the Labour leader's rhetoric in August enabling the government to open schools business as usual.

What is tragic is the number of children who have missed out on a decent education due to having to self isolate numerous times since the summer and the increased transmission in wider society, ultimately resulting in economic disaster for millions of people and death for those most vulnerable.

Channel four dropping truth bombs
Current rate of vaccination 2027
1 million a week 2023
2 million a week feb 2022

30 million was promised by September but we only got less than 2million

No one is going to chase 100% vaccination in the UK what would be the point? Rapid vaccinations until you reach the Under 30s then revert to 9-5 7 days a week whilst sending the extra vaccines we ordering abroad because it's all well and good us being vaccinated but if Covid continues to run unchecked in some countries it will keep mutating. We need to push for vaccinations world wide

While I appreciate that, with infections on the rise, there is still some need for restrictions at the moment, the government really need to be giving us more information about how long these are likely to last if they want continued co-operation. I also understand that they can't give absolute guaranteed dates for vaccinations as there may be missed appointments, and the risk of production/supply issues beyond their control, but surely they should clearly indicate that eg. Vaccinations hit x number and cases/hospitalisations drop below y, then we can move to the next lower level? The fiasco over Christmas, suggesting that the "vital" rules can be lifted for a few days when it suits, is already likely to have reduced compliance, and I can only see this getting worse if there is no indication of how much longer this will go on.

I agree, the vaccine isn't some silver bullet.
Have said all along testing is very important as well.
Imagine being able to test 20-30million a week or everyone in and out the country.
China went bonkers with the testing. Did millions overnight because of a few hundred cases.
It works and can ease restrictions faster.

Nonsense given nowhere near everyone needs to be vaccinated. What's the 2027 figure incidentally ?

Media scare mongering, their favourite pastime

Excellent substitute for the toilet roll you missed out on.

Head teacher sent us out a bulletin telling us we are all supposed to be in then immediately followed it with another email saying the director of education has now told him we're not to come in. Least that's finally cleared up.

Has your Head Teacher ever been seen in the same room as Boris Johnson?
