How is O dominant when there are only 600 odd cases out of 4k + ???
Because that suits the narrative which is currently being pedalled.

Why use actual data when you can just cherry pick what you want to ramp up fear or, even better, just completely make it up?

Think she said those are only the ones confirmed by genomic sequencing.  There are more where it's confirmed there is s-gene dropout (which is highly likely to be Omicron) and there are "more" that are pure finger in the air guesswork

They don’t genomically sequence every case and even the ones that they do test take 7-10 days to be confirmed as omicron. The 600 are confirmed through this method.

There is a crude method of identifying omicron by checking if the PCR test has the S gene or not (omicron doesn’t have this but delta does) so I guess they’re saying most cases have dropped the S gene now

I think they are going to struggle after this, if it does turn out to be less severe to the point where its a damp squib. The anxiety caused, the messaging, the financial impact..... There are papers, even if they are gammon rags, getting stuck into Whitty down South. The tide will turn at some point. A massive overreaction causing fear and panic in a hugely vaccinated population seems like a sensible point where that might happen. It will all be about whether the media break from the panic and start questioning the response, citing the SA data etc. I personally think you will start to see thta happening soon.

As I said, I think the government- both governments - will take credit for increased booster rates and point to that as the reason for keeping hospitalisations low. Opposition won't be able to lay too many gloves on them for actions they backed. Some of the right wing media who already hate Whitty will lay into him, but I suspect the general feeling will be largely relief if it stays like this.

Sunak will come back with a package to try and help out hospitality and much of ut will end up forgotten in the next big circus coming down the line in terms of the Tories emptying Boris.

Will it? When the opposition parties were calling for the same, when the public health bodies were arguably even more pessimistic, when the UK Government and UK opposition tone was the same?

The Conservatives just lost a seat they have held for nearly 200 years because the PM has lost credibility, based entirely on his party's handling of covid.

Regardless of what the opposition call for, the leader of the party in power is the one who, ultimately, is responsible for Covid response.

Our governments north and south of the border are shambolic

All this has shown is that neither of them have any faith in the current set up they have in dealing with and moving on with regards to  Covid and at the first hint of potential issues they will instead just charge right into potential further restrictions and panic  like it was 2 years ago .

How on earth are they expecting the public to buy into boosters , vaccine certificates etc etc if they clearly have no faith in it themselves

"After Christmas if we go back to limiting our personal contacts even further..."

As soon as Christmas day is past (ie my brothers Boxing day bash) I will be right back to normal. Only lying low due to having a 94yo just out of hospital after a hip operation coming on Christmas day. She must realise the vast majority will be thinking likewise.

Hyperbole and bullshit.

When you have nothing solid to go on, bluster your way to your point. Fake it til you make it and all that.

The political equivalent of a guy in Currys trying to upsell you a telly that's a grand dearer cos 'that's the one I've got in the hoose'.
