Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I've noticed this too but is it possibly due to less car sharing than pre-pandemic?

People are being asked to avoid public transport. There has been a number of journeys I would have taken public transport for that I haven't done so to reduce risk.

Equally the poorer weather means people aren't cycling or walking places. During first lockdown my road had people constantly cycling along it to the parks, now just usual commuter cyclists.

Should have had the weans at school on Christmas day imo.

I think there was a big failing not only allowing Christmas "parties" but not reiterating the rules such as all windows and doors should have been kept wide open to improve ventilation etc.

Deaths and cases at a UK level both record highs today.

Really gets on my tits that at yesterday's PM's press conference it was said several times that we've injected more than France and Germany combined. Like that makes us superior to them in some way.

What they never mention is that our death toll is by far the highest in Europe.

I cannot think of a single person I know who would have had people round on Christmas day but with all the windows open who would only have remembered if clownshoes Leitch had told us a couple of more times in the run up.

Ah, the pleasures of being a guinea pig - Thanks Boris!

Why the delay? The nations waiting to see how Covid vaccinations unfold

Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and Japan are among those that won’t start vaccinating for months, in part to see how other populations react to the jab

Another day forward and a jump from 290.8 to 299.5.   Just under 3% so that does appear to indicate some progress from the mad week.

Again just looking at Councils with a rise of over 10% on the day.

None of the real big hitters which is good news.

Aberdeenshire 265.3 to 291.0

Angus 232.4 to 259.0

Highland 213.3 to 237.5  Two 10% plus rises in a row

Moray 125.2 to 145.1

South Ayrshire 233.5 to 266.2

Also some big areas on the decrease including

City of Edinburgh, Stirling

Onwards another day and the 7 day infection rate per 100K drops from 299.5 to 297.4

So last 3 days a 3.5% rise, a 3% rise and now a 0.70% drop.

This follows 7 days of substantial rises usually over 10%

Looks like we have hit the ceiling albeit positive cases over the next few recorded days will encompass infections likley evolving from New Year illegal gatherings.

Dig in a little deeper and the news is even better.

Every Council Alphabetical Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll & Bute,   City of Edinburgh have recorded a REDUCTION in cases.

Clackmannanshire up a little

Dumfries, Dundee , East Ayr, East Dunbarton, East lothian, East Renfrew, also all DOWN in infections

Falkirk up a little

Fife , Highlands, Renfrew, South lanark, Stirling up a tiny number

Glasgow, Inverclyde, Midlothian, Moray, Western Isles, North Ayr, North lanark,  Perth & Kinross, Borders, South Ayr, Shetlands, West Dunbarton, West Lothian all DOWN

That's nearly 1 in 100!

Or 1%

While these figures are very bad, it's probably worth pointing out that Belgium, Czech Rep, Slovakia and a few others were all much worse than this about 6 weeks back and that was prior to news of a "new variant".
