Donathan
Your GP or relevant clinicians are the only people who have the power to change anything to do with your shielded status - someone somewhere has told the government to do this. I’d question with either your GP or clinic today. As far as I was aware Group 7 patients still need to shield and should receive the vaccine as a priority. Is it possible you’ve been down under two groupings (fairly normal) and have only been removed from Group 4? Either way, one for your GP. But to be clear this is something a health expert has done, not the government. I don’t think that’s right. The “Clinically Extremely Vulnerable” groups includes certain cancer patients receiving chemotherapy, organ transplant recipients etc. That group should be getting vaccinated now and are the group who need to shield at all times, only leave home for exercise, not go to supermarkets or work etcThe “Clinically Vulnerable” basically means anyone who gets a flu jab and includes a much wider list of underlying health conditions. These people are not advised to shield.

As a comparison, I came across this showing the effectiveness of the flu vaccine over the last few years. A good point which should be noted. Another which should be noted is that J&J is 85% effective at stopping serious illness, which is great. But I suppose "Hooray! We've got another vaccine that works" doesn't get as many clicks as "VACCINE NOT AS GOOD AS WE THOUGHT!!!"

Billy Jean King
Was at a meeting this morning that touched on the operation of the 8 vaccination centres identified in South Ayrshire. It appears that despite there being 8 centres only 1 will be in operation on any 1 day at this stage. Letters issued for all the over 70 appointments and it's like a road show. Five consecutive days at the Citadel in Ayr then the vaccination team move to Troon for 3 days, Girvan for 2 etc ending in Prestwick on deadline day 15 Feb.
GiGi
Daft question of the day - while it's good to see the cases per 100k coming down, is there any indication of why it's so painfully slow? I'd have expected after the first couple of weeks of highest tier restrictions it should have been plummeting by now with most infected people stuck in the house and loads of others self isolating, yet a full month later it isn't.

Could be the new strain. The high rate of hospitalisation is concerning too, but hopefully it's just lagging behind, and it will just take a bit longer than the first wave for the lockdown measures to work, backed by vaccination.

Could be a few reasons. More stuff is open compared to last years lockdown. We are doing far more testing so are catching more cases. Compliance with the rules may or may not be as good. Its still dropping at a decent rate.
G51
Curious to know why Invergordon's rate is so high. Are there any theories on why this is? In terms of the new strain, Ireland's COVID rate is cratering at the moment - R between 0.4 and 0.7. Majority of Ireland's cases are made up of the new COVID strain.

Both the best single days for Scotland apart from 17th January. UK projected supply is 324k per day for next 4 weeks. Overall vaccinations today 398k so without an increase in supply from Pfizer then this is close to the limit of what we can do. Looks like the 2nd revised target won't be hit but still doing pretty well.

So if it is kicking off it had not done on the 26th.
Inanimate Carbon Rod
How many of the j&j vaccines are readily available to go? Surely theres absolutely an argument for prioritising it for roll out via the approval folks given its single dose and excellent results. Get that stocked up and get folk vaccinated 24/7 then get us back to normal.
