Interesting paper of out Iceland claiming that vaccinating in ascending age or randomly would have prevented more infections than vaccinating in order of descending age. Largely because it's the asymptomatic young-uns who do most of the spreading.

I mentioned this yesterday as to why it might explain no spikes in cases on the continent or the US, as they have been vaccinating younger people quicker than we have.

You got a link?

Well, yes. The plan is likely to open up on the 19th or the week after to Europe and the US.

The JCVI advice was about saving lives rather than reducing transmission. Now that nearly all the over 50's are done they should be switching tack.

Paul Charles has been wrong on just about every prediction he made in the last two months. He predicted transatlantic announcement on 8th june and at g7. Il read articles he highlights from other sources etc but he himself has been so off the mark.

I agree - but just shows that they are guessing. Realistically I think the fact the ego and reputation of the Government is now at stake is what is inevitably going to force them to acquiesce fairly quickly to bring us into line with the EU and US.

We began vaccinating at the peak of the wave though which surely makes a difference.

Did they factor in the UK's position in January '21 or is it just a general model?

The EU threw a lot of orders at this failed punt.

Shame this bit

CureVac's U.S. traded shares fell 50.6% to $46.81 in after-hours trading following publication of the data.

Having followed this thread from the early days, discovering Slippery is younger than me is one of the first times I've had a double take at a post.

No worries, I'm a young man living my fathers shoes.  I travel where he never went I speak on his be half.

Cheers.

Interestingly, it would appear the pandemic is soon to be thing of the past in Iceland as well: https://grapevine.is/news/2021/06/16/fully-vaccinated-icelanders-exceed-145000-restrictions-may-be-lifted-soon/

Is this shan little island of ours going to turn into an obsessive, pitiful North Korea-esque biosecurity state while the rest of the world couldn't give a f**k?

We've ordered 50m Curevac as well.  Was supposed to be tweaked for new variants as part of a potential booster programme in the Autumn.

Daily Cases Update:  Overall about the same as yesterdays figures. Up another 2.86%.    Worth focusing now on International travel as my ditty of the day.

Scotland clear at the top of the European charts at 122.9,  Spain in 2nd place at 72.8    If ever there was a case for allowing Europeans into the UK it would be now.  Case rates in many countries below the "old" measure from last year of 20 per 100K (See below) and these countries are testing far more now.

Major countries in Europe.   Spain 72.8 & Russia 58.3 are the only 2  countries above 55 cases per 100K.  By contrast Poland 5.9, Czech 14.3, Germany 16.3, Italy 20.1
