See this a lot, never understood it. The team who finishes 11th in the top flight, and the team who finishes 2nd in the Championship, both play 38 games before the Final begins. St Mirren last season played on 13th May, 18th May, then into the Final on 23rd May. Dundee United last season played 14th May, 18th May, then the Final on the 23rd May. What advantage did St Mirren have there? How is it "designed to keep teams down"? 3rd and 4th is a different matter, but frankly 4th is lucky to have the chance of promotion at all considering they're finishing mid-table. 2nd v 3rd, then v 11th would be preferable from a "fairness" point of view for 3rd, but I doubt many people want 4th cut out the play offs. -

St Mirren's fairly large advantage was that they were already in the final. Had they finished second bottom of either of the two tiers immediately beneath them, that would not have been the case.

Guest DAVIDB69
If sturgeon follows through on her threat probably two thirds of teams in Scotland will probably go to the wall. If other countries are moving forwards and we are not probably puts international participation at stake as well.Scotland v Israel at st James park anyone

That's likely because St Mirrens league season, and amount of games played in that league season, is larger. Championship Semi Finals directly correspond with the final two Premiership games, if you want them in the Semis, and you cant play the same as the Scottish Cup Final, then you're needing to play games in June.

She said mass gathering are not going to happen for some time? Surely nobody expected crowds watching football in the next couple months. On closed door games she said ''need to be carefully considered''. What gives you the idea that England will be more relaxed on that viewpoint?

Closed door football in Scotland is not financially viable. 2. Without a vaccine crowds aren't likely to be allowed, but you expect players and officials to compete as normal with all the usual contact that football involves? This isn't Rome 2000 years ago and players aren't gladiators, they don't want to compete to potential death. Or passing the virus on to their families. And neighbours. Who pass it on to their families, etc, etc....... Edited April 21, 2020 by Rudolph Hucker

There may be a bit of a boom initially when games restart (or reopen to the public), but I do wonder if in the long term many will be lost to the game. If folk get out of the habit it could be very hard getting some of them back into it.

I quite enjoy the experience and the variety of Championship away days. Can't say paying £60+ to go to the likes of Kilmarnock and Motherwell again excites me much.

Yeah but the bottom three tiers all play the same number of games, so your analogy fails.
