Coronavirus and the Scottish Championship

It's not beyond the realms of possibility overturning 11 points (If they win their game in hand) against a club that's won 1 in 9 over a period of another 8 games, is it?

Not saying it would happen - But stranger things have.

What things?

It's exceptionally unlikely. Do you genuinely think they wouldn't have won it?

That's where UEFA would be stepping in and ensure players couldn't move until the season had completed.

Whilst you could stop players moving clubs in that period, you couldn't stop them leaving their club.

Then the same thing comes in to play. Clubs could give players a PCA with a signing on bonus that would just happen to be the same sum they would have collected in wages had they signed right away.

Like the very same side overturning a 14 point deficit several year prior against a team that had won more than 1 in 9.

Where are you seeing that about Tui? Sure it's not Jet2 - they've announced that they are lambing to restart flights then.

All I'm seeing is the announcement about all HOLIDAYS being cancelled up to and including 14 May, 31 May for Marella Cruises and 25 November for River Cruises.

Yes, I saw that as well, I read the 17th June about TUI somewhere yesterday but can't find the link now, this one is stating June 30th.

Travel firm Tui has made a number of changes to its holiday programme.

Beach holidays up to and including May 14 and Marella Cruise holidays up to and including May 31 will no longer operate.

A spokeswoman said: "We are constantly monitoring the situation and will start taking people on holiday again as soon as we are able to do so."

Tui revealed trips from June 30 2020 and onwards are currently still set to go ahead as planned.

Yes, this is True.

I suppose UEFA would need to issue something saying a player must see out the current season irrespective of when it ends with their contracted club and any "tapping up" would result in serious fines.

It's not just clubs in relegation places who might vote against but also those in playoff places or just outside promotion or play-off places.

If you look at the Championship it would be reasonable to assume that the only certainties to vote for this are United, Inverness (hoping there is a 14 team expansion), Queen of the South and Alloa.

Can't see Thistle voting for it - and Dundee. Ayr, Dunfermline, Morton and Arbroath all have a vested interest in the playoffs so may have grounds to either vote against or abstain.

I think that you're massively overstating the importance of playoffs in the calculation of most teams here. Finishing 4th and going through three full rounds of playoffs to reach the top flight is of little tangible value compared to mitigating the potentially huge financial losses of this crisis. It's already been reported that Morton are in favour of this proposal and rightly so in terms of the club's best interests: there is little to be gained for us by trying to play out eight games some time in the future, the majority of which will likely be meaningless dead rubbers anyway. Like ourselves I suspect the vast majority of clubs will prefer to write the rest of this campaign off due to the unprecedented circumstances, call the leagues as they are and free up the summer for the 20/21 season to take place as normal, or as normally as it can be. It also allows them to draw a line under their likely losses and plan for the future on a sound basis.

Here is how to resolve this.

No Winners No losers. No Champions. No Relegations No Trophies.

Premiership 2020/21 Increase to 13 teams, with Dundee United joining PL. Play 24,  Split 6/7,  Play 10/12.  13th and 12th relegated, 11th Playoffs Season, 2021/22 12 Teams.

Championship 2020/21 Increase to 14 teams with Raith Falkirk Airdrie Montrose East Fife joining Championship.  Play 26,  Split 7/7, Play 12.  1st Promoted 2nd 3rd Playoffs.  14th and 13th relegated, 12th Playoffs. Season 2021/22 14 Teams

Div1/Div2 Increase to 18 teams with Brora Kelty Bonnyrigg joining the extended Div 1. Play 34 no split. 1st Promoted, 2nd 3rd Playoffs. 17th 18th relegated, 16th Playoffs. Season 2021/22 18 Teams.

No League Cup or Tunnocks Cup 2020/21.

Free weeks here and there, not a problem.

Lifting lockdown restrictions will happen very gradually and even then, who knows how the virus will respond to that.

Any return to normal life is a while away and will need to be done in a phased manner. Mass gatherings will be the very last thing to happen, and that's assuming everything else goes smoothly.

At a time where you can't go and meet anyone from outwith your household, for the foreseeable future, playing football in 8 weeks feels impossible.

Aberdeen chief executive was on radio Scotland at the weekend and he was saying that in America (where he seems to be based) the working assumption is that sport won’t be back until the end of the year.  You could actually hear Willie Miller’s blood run cold!  Pie in the sky to think we’ll be playing football again in June.

So, you're telling me the likes of Celtic, Rangers & Hearts won't be able to comment if the league is unable to continue and just have to accept what the lower leagues have voted for?

The Premiership clubs are voting on this proposal too, because it also affects them for the reasons I outlined previously.

Following today’s SPFL announcement, Partick Thistle FC will simply not accept this proposal as it stands. We believe that the proposal requires significantly more discussion, scrutiny and debate before any vote can be taken. We are now engaging with others to amend the proposal to identify a fairer and more equitable solution to address a number of inequalities it throws up.

At an unprecedented time for football, we believe that it doesn’t meet the basic principle that no club should be left worse off by this important decision. It also seems to link acceptance of the proposal before payments can be made to hard-pressed clubs but, in our opinion, the two things do not need to be linked. Money to clubs is a priority, the proposal could be debated in slower time.

For this to pass, there needs to be 75% of clubs in each division in favour of the proposal.

  • Nine clubs from the Premiership,
  • Eight clubs from the Championship
  • League One and Two grouped together, so 15 clubs from 20

This is from a journalist on twitter....

There isnt a single proposal that doesnt see a single club worse off.

Every club will be looking after themselves, but if the majority vote for it, what are Partick expecting to actually do?

1 of the 10 in the Championship already rebuffing it. Reckon we might as well.
