Our squad is dreadful, we have two quality left backs, poor centre backs and right backs, an average midfield group, and one striker who is very limited. There will always be issues with selection and tactics etc so the manager can't just be excused. But as a group of players it's the worst we've ever had and has been for a few years now. Naw. You obviously missed the pressley wilkie years

Ya Bezzer!
Nothing is going to change while we pick players on club size rather than Scotland form. It's disgusting that the national team is trying to 'accommodate' a few players over the general good of the team. Who's picking the team and tactics? PR guys and agents? If Greg Taylor does more in 3 matches than Robertson in 30 pick Taylor. If McTominay can't defend for toffee pick Gallagher. If we become a team that actually rewards good performance and removes consistent non performers we might actually take a small step forward.

McGregor is a fantastic player but becomes a phantom when he pulls on a Scotland jersey. McGinn is an outstanding player and the only one that turns up half the time. We have good, quality midfielders but for whatever reason they just fall to pieces when they play for Scotland, apart from McGinn who is consistent.

Guest DAVIDB69
No. I don’t buy that for a second. If you can qualify with Kilmarnock players playing for Northern Ireland, you can do it with Arsenal, Man Utd, and Arsenal players for Scotland. Our problem is mentality and tactical setup. We beat France with Stephen Pearson and Gary Teale ffs.True but you look at the likes of wales and they do look like they know what they are doing, you can see they are coached properly have some form of tactical set up.We have neither of these things and with 16 different players starting over two games, that will probably climb to around 20 players over 3 games by the next game.We keep picking randoms and throw them in we have no idea what to them and the player themselves don’t seem to know what they are supposed to be doing either

On what planet would boys playing in the Czech Premiership be on the level of San Marino or Andorra? They were always going to be technically better than the Scotland players and at least as organised. mate, you've posted this a few times tonight. that was not a good czechia side. their players were not particularly good. we exposed them (mostly by accident) quite often. our players are clearly technically better than them - we have players playing in top five leagues, they've players struggling to get a game for sigma olomouc, who are seventh in their league. they're not san marino, no, but they're a team we should have dominated. they should not have had the chances they had and we should have created far more than we did. we completely failed to control the game which is the reason they were in it - it was nothing to do with their quality.
Ro Sham Bo
One team was a disorganised shambles with players out of position, panicking at corners and getting the defensive line wrong, the other only met the day before the match.

kingjoey
To win four points out of six in home and away games and be top of your group, is something that most teams would be delighted with, particularly after not playing well in either game. Taking all of the gnashing of teeth on here out of it, to play that badly in both games with a formation that is alien to a lot of the players and not change it one little bit is a crime. And I simply can’t understand why Steve Clarke is possibly the only human being on the planet who would continue to play Scott McTominay on the right of a back three for 180 plus minutes and not see that he was a bomb scare in there. I like Steve Clarke, I think he should be the manager of Scotland, but get a grip Steve.
TheScarf
Yep, Wales’ starting 11 rarely changes. And when you watch them they all fight and scrap for every ball. I watched their game yesterday and they had no passengers. Everyone knew exactly what they were doing too. They have players playing for the same clubs we do yet they’re miles better.

That is boldly assuming that Greg Taylor - or any similar player - wouldn't turn into just as much of a haddy as every other player that pulls on a Scotland top. We'd have to get incredibly lucky to get better by picking worse players. And not necessarily said players fault - our issues go well beyond the names in the squad.

greenockraver
its easy to say our players arent good enough yet northern ireland have just came out of a period of being one of the most consistent sides in europe with a far technically inferior set of players...
