However, having got to where they are, and lumbered with an unbalanced 19-team league, they could go some way to restoring credibility at no real cost by inviting a 20th club. Darvel? Or if they wouldn't play, Talbot or Penicuik? Why Talbot or Penicuik if not Darvel? Surely St Cuthberts would be the obvious next choice?
Deanburn Dave
What a shock. The three SPL teams utter an ultimatum and the Lowland League position collapses.A 19 team league and a vague promise of further discussions about the pyramid is nowhere near good enough. But fear not as its only for one season. - AYE RIGHT.#Scunnered

Andy groundhopper
No surprises with Hearts colts getting a look in, my biggest concern is having 3 teams in a league that cannot get promoted - I hope that every club below the Lowland gets an easy passage into the league, just like the colts. Money talks, has any colt/reserve side ever tried to get into the Highland League ?
Lowland team
Read a article today in the press and journal (highland paper) that that highland league would not rule out accepting colts teams into the league

philpy
Speaking to davie innes (tranent chairman) today, they'd lined up a friendly against hearts who'd promised to field a strong line up. He put up a statement on social media stating Tranent were very much against the guest teams. Hearts pulled out of the friendly.

Make them know they are very much not welcome by half the league. No photo ops, play the games and f**k off back to your cossetted life down the training centres.
FairWeatherFan
Since it is known that Hearts B are playing at Whitehill Welfare's ground. Are Celtic and Rangers still at the same grounds as last season?
Andy groundhopper
So the money laden big boys can't even play on their own grounds, thought Hearts would have made some effort. Pathetic, the quicker the Colts clear off to be replaced by decent non league clubs, the better. Hopefully Tranent can thump em all,my full respect to them. Any idea of AGM/ fixtures date ?

It’s a long time since those sides played reserve games on a regular basis on their own ground.
tamthebam
Some people on here knock the Universities being in the League. I'll defend Edinburgh Uni. They've been around since 1878 and can boast two Scotland Internationals in their history. Plus they voted the right way against the Colts. A few players in the last decade have gone on to play for some of the bigger non-League clubs in the Lothians and Jamie Redman had a decent Scottish League career Perhaps they won't be in this League for ever but they were admitted on merit when the LL was set up as one of the more progressive clubs.

Anyway in those days the process was quite stringent rather than being "we're Colts teams, here's a bribe"

BSC Glasgow on the basis of a 3 year lease at Ashfield's ground, where they never played a single game.
Dev
Interesting that only six of the original clubs from season one (2013-14) will be members next season which is year ten of the league. Sometimes, reading some posters you'd think that nothing had changed at all. Next season will even see three recent members of the SPFL in the league. BSC Glasgow entered in season two and are still there even though they never played at Ashfield, as mentioned, so that has turned out to be some fluke hasn't it? Their placings have gone 9, 7,7,3,2,4,2,15. Apart from last season they have been quite a force in the league. This coming season they seem to be recruiting well so maybe at least a mid-table finish? Given their often reported lack of supporters at matches that's not a bad effort overall. Maybe some aspiring Tier 6 clubs, which do have really good support, could give the club a call and ask for some tips on how to achieve without support.
