Wesley Sneijder almost ran me over in Ibiza , he waved at me and I didn't recognize him at first , got a bit closer realized who it was then saw the size of his bodyguards when they got out of the 4x4  , decided to accept his wave.

This has jogged my memory of almost running over Dave Spikey from Phoenix Nights on a pedestrian crossing outside Morrisons supermarket Chorley of all places.  He looked pretty annoyed even if the lights were against him at the time.  P***k!

Another heavyweight from British comedy was Windsor Davies who we "met" outside a shoe shop in Southport.  He said Hello so that puts him ahead of Spikey in the good guy stakes.

I also shared a nod of recognition with David Beckham in Selfridges in Manchester.  I suspect the recognition was one-way though.

I met Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo at a book signing.

Mayo was nod/smile/polite chat/move on, contractual obligations etc. (and I have no issue with that.).

Kermode was one of the friendliest guys you will ever meet, seemed genuinely interested in and took time with every single punter. 5 stars, would meet again.

I nearly met Jimmy Savile once. It was at Meadowbank Stadium after an Evening News charity walk - my group had arranged for him to present one of those giant novelty cheques to the British Heart Foundation. There were four of us but only two got to be in the newspaper photo and I wasn't one of them. Even then there was something creepy about him with his orange skin, but in hindsight I can't help thinking I had a narrow escape as if I'd been ten years younger and we were in a room somewhere instead of in front of thousands of people I might have become one of his victims.

Wasn't he only interested in girls though?

Typed this before...

When I came back from Australia the first time I was about 10 and started a new school in Coatbridge/Shawhead.

On the second day we all trooped down to the local industrial estate next to the M8.  Where Princess Diana was there opening something, she got as close as about 10 yards from me, she obviously saw me and got a bit star struck and walked the other way!.

When I lived in San Diego i worked in a music store and Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 was a fairly regular shopper. Good guy, took a joke well and wore home made music tshirts of Crass and Fugazi. I'm not a fan of the sound, a couple of ok songs but I liked him. This was way back around their 2nd album so not the mega star he was to become but was still pretty well known.

That would be absolutely superb.

I worked for Hugo Boss so we had a lot of celebs, footballers in the shop. I remember Evander Sno who played for celtic, he was a pain in the arse. Would come in and spend £4/5 grand and then return it all worn the next week. Everyone would fight to not serve him as your commission would take a dent. Alan Carr came in, he was a really nice wee guy. I sold Michelle Mone underwear, she was a p***k. When i worked for apple i served the boy from only an excuse, he had the personality of a fish.

The wife in her younger student days went on holiday to Vegas with her friend, involved a stop over on way back in New York, on the flight from vegas to NY she was beside Ben Affleck, in the midst of his ‘problem’ stage. He was passed out which meant she had to straddle him to get to the toilet…. Or so she says.

I nearly met Saville once, myself and a few mates were drinking in Glasgow and they left the pub early to head to a club whilst I waited in the pub for another mate. We eventually got to the club and my mates proceeded to show off their selfie with Sir Jimmy outside the Galleries Of Modern Art as he was about to jump in a taxi. Needless to say I had the last laugh as I've never knowingly had a picture taken with a famous peado/necrophiliac.

I worked on the QE2 in the 90s and he was a regular passenger during the Limey cruises. I had a tape with me of that Gerry Sadowitz show where he made the accusation about Savile and in hindsight wish I had asked him if he was aware of it just to see his reaction.

I also got to met quite a few other celebrities on there including Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka, Gene Hackman, Carly Simon to name a few.

Paul Daniels was once on doing card tricks at one of the blackjack tables before the casino opened one evening. The casino manager then told him that he was not allowed near the tables while they were open!

Rod Stewart was another regular and if you started talking about football he would chat for ages.

Kenny Dalgleish came on for a cruise and he was ok to get a photo taken with the ships football team.

One of the friendliest and most approachable people that came on was Jim Bowen. He would regularly perform with a Jazz Band in the bars and on one evening when the ship was delayed due to a medical emergency he offered to do a show in the Grand Lounge to keep the passengers entertained.

I have. Rolf Harris back when it was okay to say you liked him ironically. Some girl in work said we should go and see him in the Garage, so there were quite a few of us across the road watching the England 5 Germany 1 game on TV on a pub when somebody saw him walking down Sauchiehall St. We all piled out and got photos - I think I've still got the signed ticket somewhere.

Say what you like about the old nonce - he was quite good live. Ditto Gary Glitter - one of my mates worked for the band Girlschool's record company and sorted me out with a guest list/backstage pass for one time they were ahem...opening for him. Didn't bother using it though.

My sister called her first son after Rolf 'Harris', it's now been changed to the Island, but we know, we fucking know....
