Greenock Morton Vs Partick Thistle

Recommended Posts

Would heartily recommend any Thistle fan with a jagzone subscription to watch the full match replay and skip through to the goals, there's a Morton fan with a voice like Edith from Still Game who is audible from the camera position which you don't get with the overdubbed commentary on the highlights package. Third goal this voice can be heard saying "look at the space he's got" and it's very funny to listen to with the added bonus of Thistle scoring 2 seconds later.

That aside, Milne's first yellow could  have been a red but if the ball is rolling towards the corner flag rather than the goal - which it was - then refs will normally err on the side of yellow even if the attacker would have got there before any defender.

Second yellow is soft as diarrhoea, the Morton player screams like he's had a double shin fracture and that sells it, it's a foul, just, but an incredibly soft yellow.

McMillan won't be at this level next year, it almost seems mad he had to drop down from the Premiership. Some touch from Lawless for the first goal,  leaves the defender rolling about on the ground.

7 points from 4 games isn't a disaster and some of the initial issues with the squad seem to have been ironed out in the last two games with Neilson and Stanway coming in and improving on what was there before. McInroy will get double figures in goals if he stays fit, he's like a "supermarket value brand" John McGinn with the way he sticks his arse in to hold players off and gets into the box unnoticed. We're still a centre half short I think and could maybe have done with more pace through the middle to front but the doomsday predictions after the Airdrie game seem a bit overblown now.

Milne was a bit fortunate that he didn’t see red earlier, have seen them given. His second yellow was immensely soft though IMO. Morton started quite well and we were really poor,  probably deserved their lead. We got better as the half went on and Stevie’s touch for the goal was tremendous. Absolutely battered them 2nd half though, a few nerves when we went down to 10 despite the 2 goal lead but great to see Adeloye get his first for the club albeit poor defending from Baird (who was as bad as Kirk Broadfoot - who seems to be getting a slaughtering from the ‘Ton fans). Stanway was MOTM for me, just seemed to be everywhere, controlled the midfield along with Bannigan, certainly once Crawford had went off. Never been a particularly fashionable footballer but Alan Power looks absolutely done.

Thought Thistle more than merited their win today. We started the game brightly and took a deserved lead and probably should have capitalised on it. At the time I thought Milne was lucky not to see red for the free kick which lead to the goal? Will need to see it back. Today again highlighted the need for an actual natural right back. Embarrassing we are now 8 weeks into the competitive season and haven’t sorted that out yet.

Last 30 minutes were a total disaster though and thistle picked us off without having to really work for anything. I thought the young kid Stanway was outstanding today and won’t be surprised if a bigger team takes a punt on him in January if he can remain consistent.

Recruitments are essential or we are in for a long long season.

Last season we had 7 from 4 as well and were top after 10, although I don’t think the league is going to be as bunched as it was. It’s looking like Dundee Utd aren’t going to drop many points.

Similarly, watch & listen to the very end where someone can be heard saying "Hoy you ya big shite, stop smiling" as Graham goes up the tunnel.

That sounds like the sort of quote that should adorn the official club t-shirts with a picture of Big G.

Or perhaps one of your club media gurus could make a short video-meme to share.

Delicious.

Looking forward to the return of Thistle to the top flight.

I think this is pretty much spot on.

I felt like Thistle were really poor and we were fairly good- until the equaliser, which in itself was a mix of quality attacking and abysmal defending.

From that point onwards, we were utterly shocking, and Thistle just took that to their full advantage.

Broadfoot desperately needs to be made an emergencies only player (even that's terrifying) and Wilson needs to join him, useless c**t. Power does seem done, but at the same time seems to have moments of decent quality. He should, hopefully, settle in soon enough and get into some form. If not, f**k.

Baird's performance (same for last week) was unlike him, he's usually a wall in himself. I'm beginning to wonder if the absense of O'Connor at the centre - and therefore the loss of that partnership - is causing problems. Together they seemed absolutely amazing last season.

Full credit to the thistle players for absolutely pumping us though. Hopefully that exposes everything to Dougie's eyes and the board's.
