Hedgecutter
Finding out that Welsh Rarebit is a gloried version of cheese on toast. What an anticlimax of a B&B stay at breakfast that was. Never been back to Wales since.

Fullerene
Discovering the Ramones were not actually brothers. Oh no, Tommy has left the band. That's okay. Marky is another brother and he can play the drums too!
Guest DannyBlue
I got to my 20's before I realised they were called a 'Chest of drawers.' I always thought they were called Chester drawers, just presumed they were invented in Chester or something.
DrewDon
I think I was in my late teenage years before I learned that a carpenter didn't just work with carpets. In my very limited mitigation, I don't think I had knowingly seen it written down up to that point (I probably had).

With the accent in Aberdeen you didn't realise that a carpenter is simply someone who pent's cars? Had a guy touch up a scuff on my door recently, did a grand job.
lichtgilphead
It took me years to work out that Sheilagh Hynd's stage name (Revillos, Rezillos) was a geographical description, and not her real name.

Apparently the film was originally made with that song, and when they couldn't get the band on board, Ray Parker Jr. stepped in. He ripped off said song, got sued, settled out of court and then got his money back and more when said Huey told the story in a documentary, breaking the NDA about the case.
ICTChris
I think this kind of fits in to this thread. A few years ago a friend of my wife’s came to our flat. She walked round and went past the American Consulate where there was a big demonstration taking place against the war in Gaza - thinking about it this must have been in 2009. She got to our flat and said that there had been a demo and she didn’t know what it was for. My wife said “oh it must to do with what’s happening in Gaza” and her friend said “oh what’s he done now?”. She had never heard of Gaza and thought the demonstration was about some Paul Gascogne had done. I’m curious to wonder what Gazza could do to provoke a large protest at the US Consulate in Edinburgh.

The only thing is you have t eat it quick. The cheese sauce is molten at the outset but as it cools it solidifies until you're just cutting through hunks of rubbery cheese.
