DrewDon
"f**k off Southgate, we're voting Reform" currently being belted out in the centre of Cologne. Vile.
tongue_tied_danny
I think it's fair to say that Bellingham is utterly shite.
KirkieRR
Scraping top of the table with that turgidity is very annoying. Perhaps The Best League in The World (TM), where most of their squad plays, is actually only so because of the top foreigners.

TONTROOPER
Bellingham ...over Englands 3 group games...has underperformed. He has constantly gone down under minimal contact and doesnt understand why referees dont realise he is Jude Bellingham. He's a young guy and plays for Real Madrid but is believing his own publicity. No way Southgate will drop him though he deserves to be.

Quite a thing to hear England have a striker problem . Have Bayern signed a dud?
Fletchers Saucy Manbun
Southgate has some talent turning gold to shite. Rice makes McGregor look like prime Pirlo. Foden looks a poor man's Christie. Kane an acolyte of Shankland.
DeeTillEhDeh
That was like watching Stoke play Stoke in Stoke on a rainy Tuesday night.
BFTD
This England chat is reminding me of the World Cup in 1990, where they were so duff that everyone was bemoaning the state of English football after the group stage (where they won 1-0, drew 1-1 and 0-0, and finished top of the group). Happily, everything was fine after they shaded an extra-time game against Belgium, beat rank outsiders Cameroon thanks to a couple of dodgy penalties, and didn't get completely horsed in the semis by Ze Germans. Dunno if such a redemption arc is possible here, considering finishing fourth is no longer an exceptional result.

They stink the place out and win their group. Without getting too McGlashan about it the amount of luck England carry in major tournaments is truly a thing of wonder.

JS_FFC
Very interesting that on paper their squad is excellent in attack and porous in defence they get through the group with only 2 goals scored and 1 conceded.

Southgate would probably be an ideal manager if you had generational talents at centre half, full backs and defensive midfield. I don't think he really knows how to get the best out of the quality forward players that England have.
Red Kite
Some interesting points. England have been lucky for the last few tournaments, but we have had some competent managers who weren't lucky. You have more current and ex-players giving their opinion that the squad is amazing. You can't be seen to be seeing your arse with journalists, if they ask you a question. There is easy access for any Nigel to come on national radio and slate you. The narrative that the EPL is the best in the world, we were rubbish and an inquest is required is never far away. It has already started. Folk think that because you have more players than other nations, they must all be great so bin him off and get another in. You have probably three distinct football fan viewpoints - want my players back at their club asap, would be nice if our players did ok, or right into it. It will all play itself out with a different cast, next time.
