Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...

Caravan / campervan drivers who won't let you overtake on single track roads for miles despite passing places being present up to every 200m :angry::angry:

... and tourists that park on the blind corners to get out and take some photos of sheep on the roadside.

Fife council. Me and me fiancee have been commuting between kirkcaldy and musselburgh for the last 2 years, and just under a year ago we put our name on the housing list for kirkcaldy, and today i read an article in the local press claiming that over 100 council properties in kirkcaldy are lying empty as no-one wants them because they "dont like the area" <_< surely folk like myself who just want a place of their own regardless of the area should be bumped a bit higher up the list now?

If that's correct then those houses should be on a 'special' list (can't remember what it's called) where basically you should be able to go in to the council housing dept, providing you've met the basic criteria to be on the housing list, and say you're willing to take one and they generally say: ok, here's the contract and keys.

I really really hope to God I'm wrong but I think there's two crickets under the floor boards now. I never knew they could reproduce by some weird form of mitosis. What's worse is the newcomer is a male too therefore the little f'kers are having chirping competitions.

Dunno who's winning, the new cricket or the original one. Hopefully before long one will eat the other as I'm starting to consider sending one of the rats under the floor boards for a few days to try and destroy the noisy little bugger.

For some strange reason the Cane Toad introduction to Australia somehow contrived to spring into my mind when I read that.

can't possibly at this time of night dredge up an example of any significance but, i'm sure crickets would be capable of parthanogenesis, not mitosis as you suggested -which is related to cell division- though since you probably meant meiosis (e.g. sex cell division) it was a fair stab.

though if it is partho then its probably not just 2.......

Biological control is one of those things that you shouldnt meddle with what you can't model.
