Petty Things That Get On Your Nerves...

I've moaned about this before and I don't actually think it's petty, it's entirely vindicated, but since it's just happened to me again and I'm absolutely furious I'm going to bring it up again.  Dumbarton Health Centre - if you want an appointment you need to phone up when it opens at 8:30am.  That phone line is just a normal phone line, so if someone has called before you it will be engaged and you need to try again.  I've just spent half an hour constantly recalling and getting a busy tone, finally get through and the woman says "sorry no appointments left for today, you'll need to try again tomorrow".  And if I try again tomorrow and the same result? Yeah, try again the next day. I'm honestly astounded this is how a fucking GP operates in 20 fucking 19. How fucking hard is it to install a phone line that adds people to queue and you answer the calls in turn instead of turning into some sort of radio phone in competition. How fucking hard is it to allow people to book an appointment in advance?  I just do not fucking understand.

Just go to A&E, they'll give you a good once over.

Mine has just sorted out online booking. Of course you have to physically go to the GP and fill in a form with pen and paper then get physically posted a login, but it's progress of a sort.

I had a check on their website for online booking and sure enough they do have it available, but as you say you need to go into the health centre to register in person, which is a complete pain in the arse.  My question is, if online booking is available and their phones are such a shit show every morning - why the f**k is the receptionist not informing people of the online booking system? Telling folk just to phone up again in hope the next day is fucking awful assistance.

Mrs Thebaptistist is a Band 7 nurse practitioner specialising in A&E medicine. I get an appointment whenever I want. Last week I had a bit of a problem so I went to her A&E, fastracked through reception to a doctor, x-rays and blood tests done within 15 minutes, results after 30 minutes. It's not what you know. it's who checks your testes that's important.

Just phoned my medical practice, was asked if it was urgent, said not particularly, booked in for Monday. Took less than a minute. I'd find another Doctor.

I like my doctor, he's great and has helped me immensely in the past so I'd like to stay with him, it's just the process of actually meeting the c**t that's doing my tits in!

Maybe he doesn't like you, and has a red alert placed with his receptionist that when your number comes up it is ignored until it's too late to get an appointment.

I've hardly ever needed to see a doctor but I've taken my parents for appointments countless times in the last few years, and they've only seen their assigned doctor once. I can see it's different if you like a particular doctor, same as a dentist. I'd go through the hassle of getting online. And mention it to your Doctor when you eventually get to seem him, the system sounds insane.

There's two doctors in the practice and I always see one of them but mainly my own doctor. With the problem I've got I'd rather I spoke to him as I've had previous similar issues.  I'll definitely get registered, I don't think I've got the patience for another rejection.

WIWAL if you wanted to see a doctor you went along to the surgery and sat in a queue in the waiting room until it was your turn. This meant you didn't have to anticipate being ill a week in advance. When did making appointments become a thing?

Probably around the time fucking morons found it acceptable to waste an appointment for a runny nose. It's ridiculous what some people will go to the Dr for.

What does WIWAL stand for?

Possibly an even worse system than the one my GP is using.  I really can't afford to sit in a GP office all day hoping that I'll get an appointment before the day ends.  An appointment based system makes complete sense for this stuff, it's just very poorly implemented.

When I was a labrador.

Good answer!
Now get it and and Gordon’s post read likes one of those Facebook posts about how everything was better back in 1903 etc. fair question at the end of his post though.
I’d guess its do with having less doctors and/or more people.

WIWAL the doctor used to come to the house, hardly ever the other way round.
