Stokes is moaning now but you knew by his instant reaction he hadn't caught it. If he is moaning about losing the review I'd love to know why. They asked for a review for a catch, Stokes dropped it. Why should they keep the review?

I think this might well turn out to be a case of England being saved by rain later. They can go on and on about moral victories all they want, but the fact is, they've failed to regain the Ashes because of some bloody amateurish cricket and decision making, and their inability to realise that 100%Bazball 100% of the time is not the best approach, and in fact, it's downright idiotic. They've Bazballed their way out of dominant positions in at least two of the five Tests.

Stokes had to be convinced to review that and I think he knew he’d fucked it but thought it was worth chancing.

On keeping the review, surely for a catch that’s only going to happen if they can’t find clear enough footage on a close one for touching the grass and need to stick to the original call, if there’s clear footage and the 3rd umpire agrees with the on field decision then it’s a review lost.

Yes, was pure cheating to try review after that.

Given that Stokes obviously knew what he had done, it was daft of him to review. Apart from anything else, he burned a review that England may very well need later.

England have lost the series because of

1. Not picking your best wicketkeeper

2. Awful bowling tactics, exacerbated by not picking your best bowlers.

ETA. Picking "favourites" rather than better or in-form players.

2 - 1 Australia and 2 draws.

Might not be a bad call after all...

I see the guy Norcroft on the BBC was saying that the umpire was wrong ruling that England had used a review. Not sure how he gets that tbh - seemed to be comparing it to the one at Lords but the 3rd Umpire reviewed that himself didn't he, whereas England asked for the review this time?

Yeah one at lords was 3rd umpire checking himself,  and tbf, had the call been as close as the one at lords keeping the review seems fair,
