@AdamskiWe enjoyed our first visit to Finland last summer (Helsinki & Turku, we were looking for something different & had a great time). Realised we had barely scratched the surface so looked for other destinations this year, Kuopio seemed to tick all the boxes.

A stunning place & I admit I'm jealous you have a strong connection to the area. Currently in Tampere which is completely different but amazing in its own right. Rapidly falling in love with Finland!

*wrong forum etc, will look for a thread on the Travel Forum.

Actually Tampere is the other city in Finland that I have strong connections with. My dad (who is Scottish) lives there and I’m over about once a year.

Scotland Women playing Finland there in a few days, and also a Ilves, TPV, and TamU if you’re looking for a football fix (I’ve seen them all at various times).

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!

Dalry Thistle 3-0 Muirkirk Juniors

The League Cup starts today but that's boring. Why not come to a friendly between Dalry of the West Third and Muirkirk of the league above?

My heart usually drops like a stone when I see a community centre with a football stadium attached but Merksworth Park is brilliant. Plenty terracing, decent sized cover and well stocked pie hut and bar.

The West tiers are still sorting themselves out after the great migration but Dalry dominated this match from start to finish and will have been disappointed not to have won by more.

Muirkirk will possibly say that you shouldn't read too much into friendlies but if they play like this it might be a long one. Dalry will be hoping this is a sign of things to come. A fan of the navy top with red shorts combo, Dalry on the good guys list*

Interesting that the lines were cut short but the other grass kept quite long. Some Sounessian vaguely legal skulduggery? I highly recommend Merksworth for a visit. Plenty room and nice folk.

*cue appointing an arsehole to the board or signing someone on the register like every other club we take a liking too...

Preston Athletic 0-2 Darvel. Decent game for a friendly and played with a surprisingly competitive edge by both teams. Darvel were the better team and deserved their win although penalty in first half looked very soft. Thankfully rain stayed off until after full time.

Had a choice of Highland amateur cup q/f games today,avoch-loch Ness or clach-golspie stafford.i chose,I think wisely, the clach game as I couldn't be arsed driving to avoch

What a game!4-4 after 90mins,5-5aet&clach won 5-4 on penalties.

Golspie had one of those games where nothing seemed to go right in front of goal or anywhere else,if they'd taken their chances they'd have been out of sight.as it was they were playing catch up for almost the whole game, not helped by an outfield player having to go in goal after a keeper injury.also reduced to ten men in et after a red card.the stand in keeper nearly saved 2 pens&scored one himself.

About 120 attended, everything from sunshine to thunderstorms&torrential rain.

Great stuff

Trip begins at NDP for tenants v landlords, both after last season's struggles. Clyde did ok first half, decent through ball well finished by Scullion for 1-0 The Accies were more lively the 2nd half, forcing many corners but their final ball ended most attacks. Two late goals sealed the win, well deserved overall. They could be useful at their level, whilst Clyde really need at least 4 or 5 more in that side (only 2 subs and a gk) to avoid another struggle.

Consett AFC 5-1 Tow Law Town.

Eighth tier vs ninth tier in the English pyramid and Consett were far too strong for the team from the division below. Not a great standard of football but decent entertainment.

Consett's original opponents Newcastle Benfield pulled out of the game this afternoon, so credit to Tow Law for picking the game up last minute or else we'd have shown up to an empty stadium (I checked Twitter this morning and they had advertised the original match!)

Season 2023/24 is now underway for myself. And I started with giant killers Spartans at home to Falkirk. Could they add another fallen team to their scalp? Or would Falkirk heed the warning?

Well the Bairns started of much the better team as they kept possession well and scored an early goal when  Thomas Lang fired in a bullet header from a 6th minute corner. Falkirk looked much the better team for most of the first half, but Spartans were working hard to get themselves into the game. But alas the visitors took a deserved lead into half time.

Spartans made a change in midfield at half time and it seemed to work as as it got them further up the pitch and they started to cause Falkirk some problems. They duly got their reward as a mix up in the box seen Blair Henderson get his goal and a deserved equaliser.

Spartans seemed favourites now as Falkirk appeared to lose their way a bit. But their hard work paid of with an 89th minute winner when Penalties seemed to be coming.

The result was a bit harsh on Spartans. But they competed well.

I thought the referee was a bit fussy, blew for a lot of fouls, and didn't play advantage at all to the frustration of both teams.

Not sure of crowd. Over 1000 I'd guess. Ticket £14, programme £3

Back at Old Quarry Road for interesting pre-season game : Ardeer 4 Shortlees 5 probs around 100 att . The ammies played some good stuff with the home defence all over the shop. Some well worked goals, a cruel deflection , and an own goal by Ardeer I think. Think tired legs played a part (I didn't see them come on) but enjoyable stuff at least.20230718_203311.thumb.jpg.6fbee5b203888f056a1fba7ed580950e.jpg

Sacramento Republic 1-1 Memphis 901, USL Championship 16/7/23.

Poor standard but that could be to do with it being 42°C that day. The Sacramento right back is easily the worst professional footballer I've ever seen live. Nick Ross formerly of ICT and Dundee had a decent showing in the middle of the park.
