  1. Heard both - would not be upset on anyone preferring Nina Simone's version of Tom Thumb's Blues altho' I disagree personally. On The Byrds, I prefer their own songs from that album, I felt their version of My Back Pages was a bit backwards looking. I don't know if I'll manage the full thread but if anyone has mentioned Rod Stewart's version of Angel over Jimi's I'll probably cry.
  2. The Man is a god (sic) and most of his versions are miles better than the covers (especially any done by Rod Stewart) notable exceptions for me are The Byrds (Tangerine Man) and Bryan Ferry (A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall) but certainly not Ferry's 2000ish album of covers - the trax I heard were extremely bland. George Harrison's If Not For You may count. None of the many versions of Knockin' on Heaven's Door are better and most are not even close - do you hear that G'&'R? I'd accept HOTRS by The Animals but that's a traditional song and not a Dylan original. Robert Plant did a decent cover of One More Cup of Coffee but even though I love Planty I wouldn't say it was better - different and maybe eeksy-peeksy. ****************** I'll maybe look through the thread to see who else else prefers the bland to genius (see Adele so tasteful it's egregious).
  3. That's just tragic , a brother in law has spent a lotta time & money collecting them in a number of formats - cassette, vinyl, CD - and now it's all available on one playlist I remember him being especially pleased when it hit 100. ********************* FWIW that would be my party from hell as I always reckoned Now largely consisted of the blandest of whatever was trendy at the time.
  4. 10/10 - Guessed wrong with George Elliot yesterday so was pleased to see her show up again today. I knew the century for the printing press but the actual year would've been pretty much a 1 in a 100 guess.
  5. I think t'internet has taken over from local proximity to a certain extent, in recent years it's generally been The Fakes and before that ICT & Falkirk rather than Morten for us.
  6. Having suffered relegation seasons I'd say no as you just want to see the back of most of your squad whereas Thistle fans are unlikely to actually hate any of yesterdays team.
  7. Love to see John Kennedy gat the gig but then why would he give up a job for life if he stays as No.2?
  8. Feel Thistle had the ability to kick-on if they got promoted, if MM stays on then I don't see them improving on 11th - for two similarly sized teams we haven't been in the same division as Thistle too often over the last coupla decades. ***************** Question for Thistle fans claiming penury - I thought that lottery winner had seen you OK.
  9. I took home a portion of the (relevant) penalty spot that afternoon - it's underneath the washing line in the back garden.
  10. Who could stand up to that team of spectral wraiths straight from the pages of Tolkein?
  11. Wordle 714 6/6 Desperate go at Attempt 6 - second day running.
  12. Decision's made - no point looking back. Good luck to Shaughnessy with the obvious exception - I've also decided he's not all that good looking.
  13. We offered a 1 year deal, he wanted 2 years which presumably you offered. Quite a lot of our fans thought he was better than the players keeping him out of the team so with one exception you've got a player who everyone agrees is still top flight class.
  14. I reckon if anyone was willing to pay half his wages SR would cover him in bubble wrap and drive him there toot sweet!
  15. When did the Cup Final Singles trend die out? We had a rather unseemly uptempo version of "Oh, When the Saints" in 1987.
  16. My take on Johnson handing over the WhatsApp details is that he knows he's finished but that he wants to take a few other Tories (especially Sunak) down with him. A snake to the end!
  17. Like I said elsewhere I reckon Thistle have more potential than County so even tho I have a coupla Thistle supporting mates for purely selfish reasons I'd prefer County to stay up. For the same reason I'd be happy to see the likes of Ayr, Morten win the Championship (unlikely I know) as I reckon their stay in the top flight would be brief. For me we're a diddy team and our priority, whilst in the top flight, will always be to avoid the bottom two spots before we can look upwards.
