Yes increased player wages, VAR and possible grass pitch replacement costs need to be considered, but the finances available in the top flight far outweigh these over a sustained period. Go up and straight back down and it may be a struggle but I feel we have the infrastructure to compete in the higher league, won't be easy though. You have to have ambition, right? Otherwise, what is the point in all of this?! Unfortunately, this is the downstream effect of the Old Firm on Scottish football - the Premiership is a broken product where the upside is very, very limited and most clubs are destined for a pretty miserable existence. To establish yourself (financially, structurally, reputationally) as a stable Premiership club, you're likely talking a 10+ project where everything on and off the park needs to be managed really well. To maintain that and become a top six club, 20+ years. And in all of this, the most success you are ever likely to experience is a cup win. But you're unlikely to get a cup win from the Championship. It's a question of slowly raising your ceiling but always making sure your floor is safe. The hardest part is resisting the temptation to throw money at success. AllanJM Posted January 12 Share Posted January 12 Firstly, great news that Byrne is now definitely here for the rest of the season and that he can now play in the Scottish Cup. I have no doubt that we've already had discussions with him about staying on next season too. As for the issue of promotion, I'm honestly amazed that any Rovers fan would be anything other than 100% sure they wanted us to go up. I genuinely understand some of the potential negatives mentioned but they would be far outweighed by the positives. I was a teenager the last time we were in the top league and absolutely loved it. Even the 96/97 season, which was generally terrible, had plenty of good moments. Even the day we were relegated with a 5-0 pumping at Fir Park was a laugh. We knew long before then that we were going down so just enjoyed the day out and wound up the Motherwell fans about coming down with us (they only finished above Hibs on goal difference but Hibs then beat Airdrie in the playoff). Even the potential for having to change the pitch isn't really an issue. If we get 3 years' grace for it then I have no doubt we wouldn't do anything until the summer before it needed to be changed. We'd then have had a couple of seasons in the Premiership, earning Premiership money, so the cost should be perfectly manageable. 0 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

He’s under contract though and some of the figures being banded about, we surely cant afford that. Kirkcaldy is a lot closer to Dundee than Dingwall right enough.
