Armstrong taking criticism for poor corners, OK so this is an Area that obviously needs work but I'm baffled at  suggestions to put someone else on corners, like who? For as good a player as LV is I can recall his corners were pretty awful, just maybe Armstrong does better in training than everyone else?

Another ever-present moan is about the passing across the park at the back, as bemoaned by all true devotees to the Scottish (just get it up the park) game. Last night Ayr played with 4,5 and 6 at the back most were a decent height. Had we sent in the high ball it would have been repelled or last and the same experts would be moaning about playing hoof ball.  Another complaint I saw was our centre half's not going forward enough, Ayr sat defensively and hit on the break surely that would have played right into their hands?

Since JMcG came back we have played the patient game and most of the time it has worked out well. Last night we mightn't have won but we didn't lose either, maybe fresh  stratagems are needed but I'm sure McGlynns knows that and has a better idea than the back of a fag packe experts on here P&B.

In John and Smudger I trust.

I do love when fans criticise players for this though, as if there's some other set piece specialist in the team that the manager just doesn't fancy.

Corners are harder than they look, the best corners are dropping in at pace, near the 6-8 yard mark in between the front post and the centre of the goal, I swinging preferably.

Don't get the height right? It's getting cleared at the front post, too hard? Sailing over the back post. Not enough power? Keepers claiming that.

And most times if you nail the delivery its getting cleared anyway, it's a tough one!

I think Armstrong is trying too hard. His tackling back is appreciated as it helps us win more of the ball. I think that he should, at the least, share the dead balls with Kennedy. He is off the boil there at the minute. Bene & Davo need to start seeing the runners -in the second half v Ayr -the distribution was slow & poor.

Agree with this. Armstrong is clearly off the boil but most wingers out of form at this level would go into hiding. However, to his credit, he has never done that and is always trying to get on the ball but when nothing is working for him it only magnifies the fact he is out of form.

I would bring Gullan in for him tomorrow but can see why McGlynn is hoping he will play his way back into form, he was excellent up until the end of January. A wee break would do him good just now though.

Gullan has a problem in that he’s only ever looked any good for us playing wide left, where Kennedy currently has the jersey sewn up, or as part of a last season’s front three that we just don’t play anymore. Right wing or number ten are the only available areas and he’s never looked upto much in either of them, and I don’t see him becoming a lone striker.

Armstrong has been poor of late but also deserves credit for a terrific work-rate and constantly looking for the ball. Certainly can’t be accused of hiding. If he’d just leave set-pieces alone I don’t think we’d be calling for him to be left out with the same gusto.

I’d possibly be tinkering with the formation, I feel we’re still playing the system that suited us at the start of the season despite a glut of new forward options now but I’m not sure McGlynn will be as keen. The midfield three of Hendry/Spencer/Matthews have completely controlled the last two home games, territory must’ve been 80/20 in both, but we just don’t feel too likely to create much and whipping crosses in all game isn’t a guaranteed route to goals.
