I encountered one working as a waitress in a hotel in Shetland. At breakfast I ordered my usual sausage, bacon and egg and was surprised and a wee bit dismayed when she brought me a bowl of porridge. Thinking about it now the following morning in that hotel, the same girl, brought me a jumbo sausage and two whole grilled tomatoes arranged on the plate in a formation that could only be described as pornographic. She dumped the plate down then ran off laughing hysterically. Actually, there are two typical situations here - First, as described above the wife is working abroad and sending money home and the husband is taking care of the kids and drinking Red Horse beer. The second is where the husband is working as a seamen and most of his salary is paid to his wife who then spends it all on online shopping and then pays off some of the mortgage arrears just before the husband arrives home!
