Zen Archer (Raconteur)
Looking to sign up to classes to learn a wee bit of gaelic. Think I'll be able to cause all kinds of seethe with just a few basic phrases. You know you can google for the swear words, the rest is just a waste of time.
Jimmy85
Definitely a well rounded reason for learning a new language. To troll people.
chomp my root
Historically us lowlanders didn't speak it, it was a teuchter language, I considered it years ago too and tossed it off because I'm lazy and also thought it would be a bit 'false'. Good luck with it though, it would be cool to be fluent enough to speak it.
jamamafegan
Definitely a well rounded reason for learning a new language. To troll people. Why should it matter what his reasons are for learning? The fact is he wants to learn it and is looking to go to classes to do so - which has to be appreciated.
SweeperDee
I thought SweeperDee had previous in this sort of thing? 2 issues; I'm only 20, and a young looking bugger. Also, I have never considered kicking about Ninewells and its surrounding area; it's probably an escaped patient from the Carseview mental health institute. -
Blootoon87
There's a guy on that Sunday Brunch on channel 4 just now that I'm sure I recognised but couldn't figure out where from. I just realised it's Deeboy's avatar. I think I spend too much time on here.

So I assume if someone was to learn a new language with the sole intention of spouting racial abuse it also wouldn't matter what the reasons were and it should be appreciated because said person was willing to learn?

Point taken. I do however doubt that Forza's ultimate goal is to troll people with his new found knowledge, and that he probably has a keen interest/appreciation for Gaelic. If he is doing it just to troll...then I suppose I would have to commend him for putting such great effort in just for some cheap thrills.

ForzaDundee
Already a few bites in this thread and I only said I was thinking about learning it two hours ago. Think this justifies my reasoning.

Hedgecutter
Might sound a horrible or morbid thing to say, but seeing as I don't get to see my grandparents who are both in their 90s very often, I get saddened leaving and saying bye to them knowing that there's a serious risk that it could be the last time I see both of them. It saddens me.

philpy
I had a dream last night in which Philpy appeared with a selection of bottled ales under one arm and a section of his mottled kitchen worktop under the other. And he called me Alice. Oi! My worktop is clean now. and worringly, my mum is called Alice...

Hedgecutter
Not an exaggeration: I genuinely think the last time I was in Glasgow where it DIDN'T rain was over a year ago (maybe even two!). I pass through on average once a month. Wasn't here during this summer's dry spell mind - or was that why it was dry? vikingTON
That's pretty cool man. I was discussing gaelic recently, I think it's good people learn it to preserve the language. Personally I think it should be taught in all Scottish schools to some level. It obviously bares little use outside of Scotland, but I think it's good to learn to understand and become closer to our national heritage. I met a few Welsh lassies on holiday years ago and they spoke fluent Welsh. It was pretty impressive, and I was pretty envious I couldn't speak my own celtic language. Gaelic isn't part of Scotland's "national heritage".
