Don't think Thunderbird had been invented in the 70s (apart from the Gerry Anderson version, of course) but spot on apart from that. Indeed. VP, El D or Lanliq.

tamthebam
I used to have a photo of the old man from the early 70s and he's in a kilt at some do. Scouts used to sell programmes at the Tattoo and I volunteered. A mate who'd done it before said "Wear a kilt, the Yanks tip you if you do". Made twenty quid in tips which was decent dough for 1987.

There was a spell about 10 years ago when all my mates were in their late 20's and getting married, we were at all the fancy places round Aberdeen (Norwood, Marcliffe, Pittodrie House, Ardoe) and someone would drive and have a cool box in the boot and we'd pop out every now and then. The price of drink was scandalous then at these places, presume it's worse now. They are ready ripping off the bride and groom for food, venue hire, rooms, why can't they just charge reasonable prices for booze. Robbing b*****ds. That's without thinking about what the happy couple get ripped off for photographers, bands and cake.

Honest_Man#1
Seems like it’s maybe one for the unpopular opinions thread based on the last page, but I love a wedding, especially a mates once rather than family. A massive party with all your mates having a great laugh together. Always find it odd when people don’t enjoy them tbh.
Stellaboz
Weddings are great, but only if you know at least a couple of people there except for the couple. Also depends on the group.

The only weddings that aren't really enjoyable are the fiddlers invite to some workmate of the wifes where you know no-one type deals. The run in my late 20s where myself and most of my mates got married was fucking great for days out. All of them were class. You own in particular, where the guest list is just all of your friends and family there to have a genuine good time and to give you your wee shot of being the main event is amazing.

It's not as simple as Braveheart coming out, is it? Fucking minter, if so. Anyone whose parents were married in the early 70s are too green around the gills to post on an 'unpopular opinions' forum. Can we agree a cut off date of parental marriage set at June 10th 1965 ? Edited December 5, 2022 by kennie makevin Typo

After the event, the couple got all the photos professionally developed and put into an album. Paid a lot for this company to make this for them. One photo was of him dancing, doing some kind of high kick. Twig and berries on display. The bride was pretty unhappy, to say the least. Was that because she realised she'd married the wrong brother?
DA Baracus
Agree that weddings are usually great fun. Think the only one I didn't enjoy was an uncle's wedding when I was about 8 or so, because I was a bored kid.

Wedding invitations are like drawing the Old Firm in the cup: exciting at first but eventually a rigmarole you can't really be fucked with almost identical to the previous time. -

Surely you can do both? Weddings are totally different from any other mates night out. Different vibe, different crowd, totally different setting. Theres no way you can imply what your first sentence implies.

I wouldn't read too much seriousness into my unpopular opinion.Of course you can do both but there's a much higher level of obligation to attend a wedding and there are other socially restrictive conventions one feels the need to adhere to.I don't think anyone who enjoys weddings is a weirdo, and I've enjoyed the odd one myself, but none of them would trouble a list of best 100 nights out I've had. When I think back to the weddings I've attended I struggle to differentiate them. Perhaps that says more about the company I keep than weddings in general though.
