Just a bairn
Kilmarnock clearly on another level in all aspects but think we did OK over the piece. Main highlight for me was Mackie; good in the air, strong, composed and capable of more than passing the ball backwards or sideways. I’m also not a football tactical expert and would never claim to be, but it seemed Hetherington was playing with a lot more freedom than he has in the past. He had a few shocker passes as per usual but he actually looked quite good for the most part.
AriG-FFC
Great reception for the wee man last night. Must admit had a wee lump in the throat when he came out to local hero. The game itself I thought we looked far better organised and played at a decent tempo and a few nice passages of play. Considering that was 70% of last seasons dross playing it was much improved. Mackie and the young boy Yeats were excellent. I think McGlynn might well be able to get a bit more out of what we have, he will need to because doesn't sound like loads more will come in. Anyway promising, goals we lost were horrendous but that is not our first choice defence. And Killie are huge compared to our midgets. Bug bear for me is looks like we have signed another keeper who won't command his box and take a cross.
Anthony Fitzgerald
One thing I think we can all agree on, and that’s getting Local Hero back as the song the players run out to.

So Finn Yeats was the trialist? 18 year old who's just been released from Aberdeen. Played 10 games for Keith FC in the highland league last season. Looks to have played right back for them a fair few times.

Don’t imagine either will get a lot of game time in the prem. Dan Armstrong would be a good signing, McGlynn had him at Raith as well, but I'm not sure about Innes Cameron, took his two goals well last night but he was up against Ryan Williamson's defending. QOS fans are dreading getting him back on loan.

Would be a good addition based on last night.

Still waiting on the crunchie boys announcing who won the prize draw top prize of coming on and playing up front last night though.
Senor Bairn
Like most have said, game was really competitive until we started bringing the trialists and younger guys on. Not arsed about the result cause you know.. it was a friendly. Donaldson, Henderson and McGinn will bring the physicality we desire and I think we wouldn't have been bullied so much from set pieces if they were playing. However the zonal marking at corners gives me the fear. I liked the look of Oliver up top however I'd say we need some reinforcements. McGuffie, Nesbitt and surprisingly Hetherington and McKay all had decent games.
Proudtobeabairn
As others have said, thought Mackie was excellent, especially first half. Don;'t think Yeats offers anything we don't have in spades (ie small, lightweight midfielders who can pass the ball sideways). Neat and tidy but not what we need imo. Shades of Jaime Wilson from the number 9 - hopefully we don't default to just signing whoever we have on trial this year. Morrison (PJ) looked fairly solid and Hetherington much improved. We desperately need strikers and some strength in the team.

Would have liked to see him get more stuck in but given he's only 18 and it was his first game for us I'd like to see him again. Stranraer will be a better game to see him in. Still got loads of time to improve and add other things to his game under the right coaching.

FFC 1876
What was the deal with naming the academy players on the bench as trialist last night? Pearse Carroll, young left footer that came on in the middle of the park towards the end, was named but the rest weren't, is he the only one actually signed?

On last nights performance Yeats was streets ahead of what we currently have, would definitely be a good investment.Up front will remain a big problem till the loan market kicks in

I thought that was strange too so I asked the question. He's registered on a player extranet system as being under contract for a wee while yet whereas the others aren't. I don't know anything about youth player contracts so possibly they'll reregister once they start playing again. The youth leagues are on some sort of break at the moment. I recognised five of the U18s last night, with two of them, Pearse Carroll & Scott Honeyman, coming on in the last ten minutes. I'm guessing we'll see more of the U18s and the other trialists when we play weaker opposition on Tuesday.
Guest
The lad Yates looks like he needs to improve technically but he has some engine. Even in the last couple of minutes he got back to clear an attack. At 18 he won’t be expensive. On last nights showing I would certainly look to bring him in.

Agreed - he’ll only benefit from playing and training with McGinn. McGlynn is clever enough to manage Yeats wisely and ensure he doesn’t burn out or suffer from huge losses in his confidence.
ShaggerG
I thought the much maligned McKay and Hetherington both played quite well. McKay still made a few loose passes though and we certainly need to replace him as a starter. Hetherington may be ok as back-up to McGinn though? Mackie played well I thought although he's not tall or dominant enough to play CH I don't think. Could maybe work well on the left side of a 3 though if that's how McGlynn decides to go. The young number 14 looked lively and comfortable on the ball and may be ok to take a chance on. Probably not as a starter though? I was disappointed in Oliver who had a few chances to run on to loose balls but didn't show enough desire to get there IMO and C Morrison offered very little. Someone said that he looked like he'd want to play elsewhere but, if he's looking for a move, he didn't go the right way about getting one.
