What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

Frozen was surprisingly good. Olaf and Sven steal the show.

American Hustle meh. Way too long. Can't understand why it has garnered so many Oscar nominations to be honest. Amy Adams is smoking hot in it though.

Watched Rush on the plane home last week. Very good film. The depiction of James Hunt in particular was superb.

Gravity saw this in IMAX. Definitely a film to watch in that format. Not much of a plot but gripping all the same.

The Wolf of Wall Street - Who knew that hookers, drugs and Lamborghinis could be rendered so fucking boring and feel so empty. Very disappointing film, although occasionally funny and interesting for the 3 minutes where he entertains the FBI guys on his boat. 5/10

I actually agree with that.......was very underwhelmed by this much touted film.

Agree with previous posters that Di Caprio was outstanding in it.

Yeah - it's not as though I'm trying to pick holes - Goodfellas is my favourite film and Casino was right up there, but I found TWOWS tedious.

It's literally like a 3 hour rollercoaster ride - fun for 10 minutes, but then boring, repetitive and makes you want to vomit a little bit.

Just finished watching the 3 recommended ones from the end of 2013.

Twelve years a slave(start of 2014) was a very difficult watch. A good film, but difficult. 8/10

Wolf of Wall Street was a good film aswell but it the entire way through it I just kept realising how similar it was to Goodfellas. Scorcese, eh. 8/10

And finally Gravity which I thought was a very very good watch, my heart was thumping like nothing else the entire 90 minutes. 9.5/10

Took the missus last night to see "Devil's Due" ,now we both love a good edge of your seat/need new pants at the end movie, but this.....

basically its 90 minutes of my life wasted, the cinematography was making me feel ill,it was basically filmed on (supposedly) a video cam, cue, jittery filming, screen bouncing all over the place, lots of out of focus moments and to top it all,it was basically shite, and my criticism caused a big row in the car afterwards :thumbsdown

my rating- 0/10

possibly the worst film i have ever watched !!

I'll be avoiding that one then. I get horrific motion sickness with films like that - Blair Witch Project being the worst.

The Wolf Of Wall Street

The new black comedy directed by Martin Scorsese, set in frantic, anything-goes 1990s Wall Street, following one man's illegitimate pursuit of wealth. It's as decadent, relentless and shocking as Scorsese's most notorious works, but vulgar in its absence of morals rather than its violence. Nevertheless, on the surface the film's main attribute is definitely the fall-about-laughing factor.

Terence Winter's screenplay based on Jordan Belfort's memoir is simply gold standard. It's a constant larger than life escalation of excitement and hysteria that works perfectly in the experienced hands of the old master behind the camera. On paper a comedy this long about someone so despicable is very hard to pull off but not only does it work, it made me laugh more than almost any other first viewing of a comedy I can remember.

One thing Scorsese does better than any other great director is get the best out of his cast. There are over 20 top performances in the film; no one is miscast, although I would love to have seen more of Jean Dujardin: it's not often Marty under-uses his talent, but he had so much of it some of them had to sacrifice screen time. Leonardo Di Caprio and Jonah Hill have terrific, very natural chemistry right from the start, and are every bit as effective in their roles as Liotta and Pesci 23 years ago.

My slight gripe is that the film comes to rather an abrupt and perhaps predictable end. It doesn't ruin the preceding 3 hours but it wasn't among the great Scorsese endings, and Wolf probably doesn't belong among the great Scorsese films.

9/10
